I don't disagree that Eureka should have more cosmetic rewards...but it doesn't really make sense to have that emote attached to it.

If I recall correctly, all the emotes we're rewarded in the game have something to do with the story you just played through. Storywise as far as we know the ability that emote displays has literally nothing to do with Eureka.

Another misconception, our subscription goes to a few things: Server maintenance and costs. Employee salaries. The profit goes back to SE who then gets to decide where it goes. I've heard it said the mogstation profit actually goes back into the game more directly and is a large reason why we got server upgrades recently.

Just to let you know how it's getting divvy'd up. The shop you scorn is actually helping us get better things for the game.

and to the others saying that 12 dollars is too much and it should be whatever price: Price, especially for something that has no actual monetary value outside it's own specialized market, is set by demand. They likely researched by survey and general opinion what it'd be worth and set it accordingly. As was said before if it does not sell at 12 dollars you can bet it'll be on sale before long. However, as is evidenced by people being annoyed by it enough to request being able to suppress its effects , it's selling pretty well.
This isn't a market where you get to haggle. A price is set and if you dislike it you don't buy it.

im not a fan of the cashshop too and 9€ is way to high (i dont will buy this one) but from time to time i get weak too and buy some stuff. (omg the new carbuncle shoes ♥)

i can understand that they want to make money as much as the can cuz hey , its a company!

im a bit concerned. the emotes before cost all 5€ (i mean the shop only ones not these from events) , maybe they try how far they can go. maybe all next emotes will cost 9€. in a year they will cost 13€ and so on. i smell a snowballeffect.

It only takes 1 or 2 people spamming it in a populated area for it to become annoying so I don't know if that's great evidence of it selling extremely well. In any case, the mog station has tiers from what I can tell. Most things are priced based on past acquisition. If it was available for free in the game at some point, it's cheaper. If not, it's more expensive. It doesn't seem to be necessarily based on demand, or else I'm pretty sure the songbird dance and outfit would have been much more expensive.

That being said, I didn't realize it was attached to an old figurine that people bought so the price is slightly more understandable knowing that. Even so, I won't be buying it at this price.
This also should maybe calm your concerns, EmmaVirgin. It's more pricey because this emote was never available in game. It was through purchasing a figurine. Most of the emotes you see in the store are cheaper because they were available from a past event. Ones that are mogstation exclusive are still cheaper because they weren't tied to a promotion. Things tied to promotions seem to be the most expensive, so as not to frustrate the people who actually paid for the promotional item in order to get it, I suspect.

its from a promo? never heard of it. i guess again a promo where europe (germany in my case) didnt have a chance to get it. that is one of the things i rly hate. SE should make promos for items all over the world at the same time so everybody has a chance to get them. you know it feels like some countries are less importent then others.

If an item wasn't a resource originally designated for the game then it'll be more expensive. Only the shop themselves knows the pricing scheme guidelines for sure, but I'd say since the development for past game assets was budgeted and pretty much paid for already there would be very little reason for them to charge a lot for them. It is conjecture of course but seeing as the mogstation exclusives have no guaranteed monies paying for them they'd want to bake more recovery into the price so that the cost of making them outside a constant income stream would be more likely to be recouped. It.. was not tied to a figure though? Perhaps I'm mistaken but it was theorized to be linked to a new possible limited statue but ended up coming out all by itself.

I wouldn't say "extremely" well. Though that's just being pedantic. What I mean is I've seen more than one or two people complaining on the forums about people spamming it enough to make an NM encounter rough. I've also personally seen more than 10 or 20 people on my server using the heck out of it. All super anecdotal truly, but enough for me to assume from my limited perception that if I personally have seen that many people using it and complaining about it that maybe one out of 100-200 people playing the game have probably bought it. That's not bad. To be absolutely clear the only thing I'm saying here is that the price isn't an arbitrary number set just to see if it works. I was willing to pay for it and I see value in it as have a few others and if you don't think it's worth it then by all means do not buy it and perhaps if the sales figures are low enough it'll go on sale soon. Saying things like "it should have... " and "SE is greedy" are childish though. Don't be surprised when a company tries to make money and don't expect them to give things away for free just because you don't want to pay for them.

I think the simple coding of emotes for such a high price is the issue here as the pricing point doesn't make quite much sense to some players, amateur developers could do something like this easily.

I think the FFXIV team should be careful not to tread on the ground of how F2P shops operate since there is a reason why those types of MMOs have stopped becoming popular.

I like it when emotes are a part of the story.

I've already decided I won't buy anything in the shop unless it's account wide.

I bought it because I have very little self control and I really wanted it despite not liking these kinds of business practices. Square can prey on people like me and they know it.

But at least now I can shoot lasers out of my floating body, I guess.
