The thing that stands out most to me in that Reddit thread is the comment that the devs love it and can't wait to go home and play it.

1. The devs made the instance they wanted to play (and that explains a whole heck of a lot honestly)

2. YoshiP is taking liberties to make it sound like it's more popular/well-constructed than many players seem to believe (he has done this before)

Mindless repetitive grinding is more popular in Japan than it is elsewhere. It could mean exactly what it sounds like: they designed it for themselves and Japan, and they don't care a whole lot about the rest of us. I mean, if they leave the train alone at least we can get through it that way.
