I feel like I'm missing so many magical moments in this game

I am brand new to Final Fantasy. FFXIV is the first one I've ever played. And one of my favorite things about it so far as been the music in Matoya's cave. I often just stand in there and listen to it.

It really touches me for some reason and makes me reminisce about past things. Imagine my surprise when I found out that it's a remix of the actual music used in Matoya's Cavern all the way back in the original Final Fantasy. I Youtubed that theme and instantly became emotional, even though I've never even played that game.

That folks, is what you call a very nice touch. I can only imagine what other callbacks and references to previous FF games I'm missing. But I'm glad to partake in them now. :-)

I hope all you guys realize what a treasure you have in the Final Fantasy Universe. I'm only sorry I'm coming into it so late.

Final Fantasy was part of my very early childhood. I have so many good memories of playing the series back then... In fact, now that I think about it it has been nearly 30 years since I first played FF1. Time flies huh? XD

Must have been quite the moment for you the first time you walked into Matoya’s cave and heard the music.

I get that feeling every time I use the reaper mount and hear Terra's theme from FF6. It's just beautiful.

I got excited even before I set foot in Matoya's Cave, when I first entered the Dravanian Hinterlands and saw it listed on the map, I immediately squeed "OMG!! MATOYA'S CAVE IS HERE!I I wonder if it has a remix of the music too?" And I was not disappointed when I finally got there.

Anyway, don't be discouraged that you are 'missing' anything not having played any of the other FF games before FFXIV, as each FF game is unique and independent from each other, other than sharing common themes, concepts, character classes (as in, the Job system), enemies, creatures, weapons and spells. However, if you are curious, there is this thread that has attempted to uncover the various references to past FF games (bare in mind this is incomplete so much remains uncovered).

Also you could also do worse than check out the FF Wiki for information about the entire series as with fifteen main series titles and numerous sequels, prequels, tie-ins and spinoffs, there is a lot of material FFXIV draws from. (And from there, go and try the rest of the series for yourself! ).

Welcome to the series! :P And as Enkidoh said, just about every game is independent from each other story wise. I highly recommend picking up a couple of the older games if you might have time to play through some older JRPGs. FF6 and 9 are my personal favorites.

This game is filled to the brim with so many different references, it's great. A kinda obscure one that really got me when I saw it was the Smallshell minion description, having spent so much time in FF11 myself... "The mere sight of this wee wavekin may cause severe psychological trauma to those who spent years of their lives on faraway shores culling his relatives." Spent a lot of time chain killing crabs in 11... It isn't exaggerating when it says years, or having psychological trauma (and I got into that game several years late)...

As in brand new in final fantasy franchise and ffxiv is her first ff game within that franchise.
