They better care. The majority of the MMO market is made of PC players.

Still seems pretty hyped in Japan and people are actually confused as to why the 'sexy red riding hood' DLC outfit idea isn't leading the polls lol. So I'm pretty sure XIII-2 will do just fine, not because it's a Final Fantasy title, but because, as shocking as this is to some, people actually enjoyed it and will buy the sequel/next game in line.
It's nothing different from how it seems in America they keep repackaging the Star Wars saga and it still sells very well to this date even though it's in essence the same movie re-released for the 3rd time, this is why it's not because of the title alone but because people legitimately enjoyed it. As for FF remakes, they said they remake the games to get newer team members used to how FFs are made, plus they port the popular ones over to multiple systems and usually try to make use of that hardware to the fullest, FFIV only had 2 actual remakes that were considered remakes, the PSX version and the DS version.
Her (assuming) point was XBL can self sustain itself because of all of the money Microsoft itself makes, it doesn't need to charge people for XBL as a need -- In game development however, your project is either investor funded or self (company) funded, XIV was stated to be self funded and it made no profit in the 3 years of development and 1 year of live time, box sales can almost be negated after a month. So if they need funding to continue or to push 2.0 out quicker and more higher quality, they can't sap funds from the company/investors much longer with almost zero to show for it because Square is lucky they went the route of self funding because in any other investment, they'd want the project shut down as it wouldn't be a worthy investment.why would they not charge ?
So the comparison of XBL and XIV is a good one in her response to the other poster, because while yes Square makes it's millions from other projects, it doesn't mean they can funnel all of that into XIV endlessly, it has to fund itself, especially as an MMO title -- Especially if they have a division for MMO games, which I believe they do. They can pull people onto the project, but money isn't endless and sooner or later you need to make money on it or end the project, this is why new game companies that sprout up and dump all of their funds into their launch title and don't succeed vanish or get gobbled up by EA..err bigger companies to save them and try again or to put their talent to better use.
So given that XIV is making no money, it's probably not a direct "we're sinking as a company" need, but the XIV project has likely run its' course funding wise with almost nothing to show for it. Microsoft is more of a greed than need, just look at Windows, there's free OS's that does even more than Windows does, and they want to charge up to $800 for personal use.
my house is in rebuilding stage. this house is very small and in unpopular area.
the roof, floors, plumbing, and gas are all broke.
my landlord fired the original crew. for not completing the job on time
the new crew comes in and makes all kinds of promises, and shows me pics.
now for next year i have to wait for them to finish the job.
should I move to a more popular, bigger house rent it for same price?
or stay in the part of my house that is not being rebuilt. but still pay same rent as others.

Ever since star wars mmo came out my server is pretty much dead lol.

@ OP....A-freaken-MEN. Im glad im not the only person who notices all these issues. They also need to consider that all those people who get bored or drop off until 2.0 a all likely to 1) get hooked another MMO and never come back or 2) forget about the game and never come back (a year is a long timeframe)
You would think it would be smarter to keep it free to make sure those who are still playing now are sure to stay, because they have no reason to not check in with it (it would be free) keeping that many more people around to eventually pay for it when 2.0 hits. I have a bad feeling that making people pay for the inferior version of the game, with a lack of things to keep people around, KNOWING that a better version is a year away, that they will drop the population off dramatically and only burn themselves.
ya you would think. except you dont run a company as big as SEYou would think
yea they keep taking their sweet time about tossing out these small patches. sub fees might not come for another 6 months , so it might only be a 6 months of early beta sub fee.@ OP....A-freaken-MEN.
