    my house is in rebuilding stage. this house is very small and in unpopular area.
    the roof, floors, plumbing, and gas are all broke.
    my landlord fired the original crew. for not completing the job on time
    the new crew comes in and makes all kinds of promises, and shows me pics.
    now for next year i have to wait for them to finish the job.
    should I move to a more popular, bigger house rent it for same price?
    or stay in the part of my house that is not being rebuilt. but still pay same rent as others.

    thats how it will be for anyone playing from now to 2.0 the game will not draw any new players. hell almost every major dep store has takin it off the shelf. lack of content will be a issue till the easymode lvling, and lack of content is fixed. after a year its almost to late for that.

    With open beta for SW: TOR finished, I'm going to have to agree with the OP that SE is going to have to reconsider on charging. It's everything XIV wishes it was in terms of playability, and outside of the KOTOR era graphics, is something that I predict will give WoW a run for its money. People would be looking between XIV and SW: TOR, and question themselves on why they are playing a half-finished game and paying for it when they could do the same with a fully functional one. Add to the fact that it already has a rather large fan base to draw subscribers from just for the first month, along with the die-hards that will stick with it even after the honeymoon phase, and you will be facing quite the competition.

    Most people aren't willing to pay for more than 1 MMO, since playing one takes up a lot of time. To make matters worse, the release of TOR is Dec. 20th, 15th for those who preordered, and comes with 30 days of free playtime. I expect to see a heavy dip in American and European players in December and January at the very least, and a very high chance of players not returning once they quit. The best incentive that XIV has right now is "It's free" and "It's prettier than anything else on the market". Unfortunately, these qualities are only skin deep, so once one of these goes away I'm predicting there would be an exodus for other MMOs. I myself am debating heavily on whether or not to continue my subscription.

    i unlike most of you arguing that game is good and ready to be sold, i am going to wait save me some classes to lvl so i can have fun after 2.0 so i don't miss all of the content that is not here. personaly don't find it fun to faceroll every part of this game.

    Regardless, if your goal is to create a positive aura going into 2.0, then starting to charge people in the middle of a broken job/class system migration is the wrong approach, although it is in step with other historically questionable decisions you have made as a corporation.
    I made this argument as well, and then shortly joined the "compromise", but I have jumped off the compromise train because every time I log in I realize I have nothing to do, my carpenter economy is broken, and I can get enjoyment from other areas.

    I can't imagine subscribing to this upcoming patch, and I'm baffled that Square is going to be charging.

    i agree with everything except the paying for only 1 mmo. i actualy pay for 3 different mmos and i play them at different times depending on witch friends are not working. i have no issue wit paying for a mmo, i have a issue paying for a half assed crappy mmo.

    It's not because you earn money from other projects/activities that a company doesn't "need" money.

    Even if you aren't in the red, money can help you to expand and more importantly, to stay competitive. So you may see it as "money isn't needed", but money's always needed.

    If tomorrow XIII-2 is a complete failure and if future Eidos title aren't successful as well (Hitman Absolution, etc.), then money will be needed.
    Comparing xbox live with FFXIV going P2P is pretty dumb, Xbox lives owns Playstation network in every single way, shape and form, by a margin of 50000%, why would they not charge ? They have the best product in the market, now FFXIV is one if not the worst Triple A MMO out there right now. The comparison is just stupid :/

    And as far as FFXIII, i dont think it will sell as good as the original, but it will still sell, it is a FF tittle, and Se will never need money, thats why they keep remaking their older games 10 times a decade, just check FFIV, it has around 5-6 remakes :/
