    Have both.

Positive changes that I'd like to see:

Boss drops U/U gear and mats - One is a common drop for short term satisfaction, one is rare drop for hardcore satisfaction. Which drop is rare and which is common can differ per boss to promote diversity.

U/U gear is convertible and meldable - Gives them more usefulness than they have now.

Green U/U gear is has a first-materia success of no more than 75% to start.

Blue U/U gear has a first-materia success rate of no more than 50% to start.

Solves a lot of the current problems and maintains a lot of the current positive aspects.

I like most of the ideas here. I've made it a point to have green W gear drop and be meldable - although with certain restrictions - however I disagree with blue W gear being meldable.

Blue W gear should be very strong, and also thematic. With a purpose. They should be at the value of a comparable triple-melded gear stat-wise.

    1. Maxed Forbidden Melded Green W Gear
    2. Maxed Forbidden Melded Crafted Gear
    3. Blue W Gear
    4. Melded Green W Gear
    5. Melded Crafted Gear
    6. Green W Gear
    7. Crafted Gear

I feel like that is a gear heirarchy with balanced reward, with the highest tiered gear requiring effort from all battle, craft and gathering classes.

Well, if they're going to be that strong, then being meldable is a balance issue, yes.

However, the reason why I think that blue things should be meldable is that it allows for blue items to be destroyed. Thus, if someone blows up their blue item, they then have a reason to complete raid content again in order to reobtain that item. Thus, replayability is maintained.

The current hardcore players face the following situation - run ifrit over and over until the weapon they want drops (which may or may not take forever)

Once they get it, it's over. If a certain population of hardcore players insists on blowing up up their Ifrit weapons in order to put a materia in it, then they actually have a further goal, and a reason to run Ifrit even more than they do now.

However, in the name of balance, the first meld should be something low, but not discouragingly impossible. Perhaps 25% or so.

I don't quite think it's that serious a problem. Blue W is still 3rd in the hierarchy. Once they get it, it isn't over - rather it doesn't have to be. Acquiring Green W gear (which one can carry only a max of 3 of at a time with the use of retainers) and working to max meld them is quite the task which can, and should, have a worthwhile reward.

Yep Yep, the system must be reverse.

Simple fix, Make Instance/Boss loot Meldable.

    Problem fixed.

the only problem stemming from doing that(even though its not a problem for me, but people will whine to no end) is that you cant have others do it for you so youd be forced to craft to do it to your dungeon drops

The problem is that if you make U/U gear that can be meldable drop from mobs, the crafters will be upset that crafted gear is not as good as dropped gear.

The only way to keep crafting in high demand is to make it so you can craft it, put materia on it, then trade to the person who can equip it, then it becomes U/U.

why would the crafter be mad if someone can meld UU gear?
since that person already has that craft leveled anyway, said crafter getting upset, wouldnt have gotten his business anyway

Materia is going to be an over-abundance resource at one point.

Someone is going to want the gil for making the item, not melding it.

Agree, as I said before in another Thread, the best and rarest non-ifrit Axe is my server got beaten when get in a test compare to ifrit Axe..

Yoshida said that maximum of 5x materia into 1 weapon would beat it.. but who already has it? and how many billions would he need for that?

Counter to the post above, I think stuff power should come with rarity:

-NQ white with 4+ materia, HQ white with 3+ materia
, Nq Green with 2+ materia, HQ Green with 1+ materia. (or above)
    -Blue
-NQ white with 3x materia, HQ white with 2 materia.

    -Green
-NQ White with 1-2 materia, HQ white with 1 materia

    -White

(Getting HQ(equal to +3) green is harder than Blue btw)
