Odd that you've never encountered this particular problem, as it was much more pronounced on PS3. However, you simply being oblivious, doesn't mean it isn't an issue.
I wasn't being oblivious. I've never had the problem you're talking about on console. Maybe my internet's better? Not sure. To many variables to really be able to tell. I've played on 5 different servers since 2.0 launched: Adamantoise, Midgardsormr, Gilgamesh, Faerie and now Balmung. I've never had the tanks don't load and/or are unselectable. I main as RDM now, but I also play WHM and I've never had this happen.

Ya, I would say one issue with Eureka is player mentality of wanting to micro manage their xp experience. They take the fun away from it because they are looking for the quickest route to max level.

If you take a step back and just have fun with the content, then the grind isn't as bad but the moment you add that unnecessary strain to squeeze in every bit of xp you can per hour, you turn the content into a job.

You can have a grind and still make things fun. Hell just add in HUNT style NMS in plus fill it with repeatable quests and this place would be fine.

Finally got a chance to go into Eureka. I actually enjoyed it. Sure, the elemental wheel can be a bit annoying(not sure how it is on PC, but PS4 it can be somewhat annoying to do). Was in there for a little over two hours(thank you to the level 5 tank you welcomed a group of 7 level 1 - 6 casters and 1 SAM -, and took us around and taught us). Ended with being halfway through level 4, with 32 Protean Crystals and 9 Anemos Crystals. All in all, I think it was a fun time(had a very good, almost non-stop, killing field going for a bit...hopefully can get another group that will farm there since the Protean crystals were coming quickly there).

I do think however, that there should be a daily and a weekly quest to give more crystals since it will end up likely burning a lot of people out before the end of the relics.

But where IS the fun? Just killing trash over and over isn't fun no matter what perspective you use to look at it. If they actually made it feel like another overworld map, with things like quests, frequent fates, treasure hunts, etc, it'd actually have SOMETHING.

I'm a professional game journalist. My job is literally to judge games and their designs. I happen to love FFXIV, I think it blows other MMOs out of the water when it comes to story and flexibility for players when it comes to class and job choices.

But I have serious problems with Eureka. The grind is too long, seriously what the hell? I get that relics are supposed to be somewhat grindy to make up for the fact it's for casual players. However in Eureka it's a necessity to group up. The fact that PF doesn't work in it, and that it's nearly impossible to solo with any real efficiency is a huge problem. For casual people who have trouble getting into groups for whatever reason, they shouldn't be punished or demonized to the point of becoming impossibly screwed by the system because they can't get a group to help them out. But that's what is going to happen in a month or two. People who are just starting out are going to be absolutely screwed.

Secondly, whoever thought losing XP upon death was a moron. What happens in 2 months when Eureka is almost dead during off hours, you know the hours when a ton of casual players squeeze in an hour or two during the week before their kids come back from school or what have you? People are going to be losing hours upon hours of work for a single mistake that might not even be their party's fault (if they can find one). What happens when there are jerks training literally dozens of enemies to a group for the express purpose of killing other people? There is literally no reason why losing XP upon death is an acceptable mechanic. I've played hundreds of games, and experienced thousands of different people across all sorts of different games. However there's always been one constant thing that I've continually learned. People are assholes. They aren't going to help you 99% of the time. If you ask via shout for a resurrection to avoid the XP loss you might be ignored or just completely drowned out, and that's assuming people are willing to help in the best case scenario.

Third, Leashing. I understand that it was a thing that people looked forward to not encountering, but I don't think people really thought through the entire list of possible outcomes. Yes there is leashing, but it's so far past the normal distance that it's inconsequential. This ties into the mob training as a form of player killing, but this is a serious design flaw. It needs to be fixed immediately. Especially when you have XP loss upon death. The two combined is completely unacceptable in a game in this day and age.

Fourth, Amount of Mobs. This ties into the #3, but with the sheer amount of enemies people who are trying to catch up to their group are screwed. I have a physical disability in that I have shaky hands. It's a minor thing, but it does affect my regular gameplay. If I so much as twitch with my controller's analog stick in the wrong direction in Eureka I could cause an entire group wipe. Normally I can get around this due to me playing MMOs for years and understanding spatial coordinates pretty damn well. However with the sheer amount of mobs in Eureka that's not really an option. Even in Diadem I could at least put a back to an island edge and not worry about having to watch behind me constantly to avoid a respawning enemy that can come and ruin my day (see XP loss above). So I have to do an even more crazy work around. I have to literally stealth past everything as a Ninja.

Fifth, Class Switching. We need to be able to switch classes in the field, and hell even Magia board spinning should be unrestricted or at least have the recharge rate significantly sped up. I don't want to feel like I'm stuck playing Ninja in Eureka because of my physical disability. But today that's all I felt. I felt forced into a class, that I love by the way and is my main but I could've been a lot more helpful to my group as a Red Mage or a Samurai at times. These restrictions are seriously annoying and they weren't in Diadem. You could switch out of combat at will, at any place in Diadem. Why am I so much more restricted in Eureka, when it's supposed to be an improvement upon the failure of that design?

These are my thoughts on Eureka. I will get the third Magicite at the minimum, but as of right now I don't feel like working towards my Relic, and I've been wearing or working towards a Ninja Relic since I started playing in 2.5 and hit level 50. This is way too punishing of a design for even me and I'm pretty accepting of grinds. I fate farmed all 3 crystals of the Anima relic on Day 1 of it's release, and spent 18 hours doing so since it was the holidays. This though? I don't feel like it's even going to be half as rewarding. I can't even level my alt classes when I'm doing this.

To be fair, sneaking by enemies to try to find aetherytes was fun. Until the game flipped you the bird and said you wasted your time because you need to be a certain level to interact with said aetheryte.

That was some real salt in the wounds right there. I had a sensible chuckle at the audacity of it.

I've spent the whole day in Eureka. Gained 5 levels, had about 36 crystals, done 4 Fates, 24 lock boxes, had something about 30 of the other thing that can be exchanged at Gerolt (sorry, I don't remember the name of that item, you get them from fates).

Lock Boxes having the same ...as Potd has.Sparkles, Sparkles, Level 5 Materia, Sparkles....ugly Glamour (Chaps for example) and so on.
I've thrown away all my Crystals, including the ones you get from fates. I'll never set a foot in Eureka again. It's the first time for me not doing the Relic stuff. And I don't feel sad or sorry. BTW, the Bard Bow on lvl 1 and 2 has less good stats than the Original Bow. No Crit for the new Relic Bow...
