Well congrats SE, you've made me miss farming Alexander gordias for my unidentifiables
Well congrats SE, you've made me miss farming Alexander gordias for my unidentifiables
Having played it for some time up to level 5, I do have some thoughts about it:
-The elemental wheel doesn't seem to be necessary at all; so far adds nothing innovative other than to be an extra step you need to go through to attack certain monsters of a certain level.
-Thank god I haven't hit the exp penalty/level-down part yet. The sheer amount of deaths due to stupidity from inattentive party members is going to make me adopt a "you aggro'd it, I'm not touchin' you" rule as a healer.
-The infrequency of the protean and anemos drops are abysmal given the amount you need per step, per single. piece. of. gear. By the time I think most people fully upgrade all of these... The tomestone base gear ilevel will be like, 380?
-You start to really feel the exp slog after a few levels. The Cactus NM was a great exp boost, but once I hit level 5 it moved my exp bar like less than a tenth of the way...
-I'm not sure where the sweet spot is for party size. Did some 8-people groups and did fairly well killing those Black wolves at level 4. But then you hit level 5 and the exp just takes a nosedive... So we moved on to mobs one level higher and that leads me to my next point...
-Some mobs just have stupid-crazy abilities. The Boogeyman mobs and Bears are (to my knowledge) the only level 10 mobs? The Boogeyman things have a melee-ranged AoE that charges incredibly fast and will one-shot non tanks who don't move at the first sign of orange (so, don't take melee to fight these?) Bears have a cleave that one of my party members claimed will target someone other than the tank, which does insane damage to non-tanks, and since camping here encourages you to huddle together in most places, this can drop several party members. So we're going to end up with mobs nobody wants to bother fighting and we're right back to Dinosaur Island's scenario.
-There seems to be a lot of different things that can drop from lockboxes, but unfortunately most are turning out to be loltier5 materia and fireworks. Pity, since they're not terribly common. Since I literally had only seen 1 Cactus NM FATE per trip/timer reset, this is quite the let-down. Like, can there be other ways to snag a few extra lockboxes?
My first impression of Eureka
![]()
My first impression (which is what the thread is about, so it's NOT unreasonable to based it off of just 1 hour of it) is that Diadem was better.
Starting Eureka, it literally doesn't even TRY to hide that it's a grindfest and just tells you to go level your elemental level to get to the next quest.
At least Diadem had the decency of having objectives, with a reward for doing said objective that had guaranteed spoils, to try ever so slightly to mask that. Yes it had RNG for getting more, but you were guaranteed a base amount just for completing your mission.
Instead Eureka loot works entirely off of RNG. A solo player has little chance of getting loot (though they might level ok otherwise) because of the difficulty in keeping up a kill combo while solo. This means that in 6 months, when everyone's moved on, new Eureka adventurers will have an even harder time because as people dwindle, so too will their chances of getting parties.
Heck forget 6 months. In about a week, anyone who started late is going to have a hard time getting a level 1-5 party going, because everyone else will have moved on to tougher monsters and there's little incentive to stay for lower level mobs to help late players.
I actually had a decent time the first few times my FC and I did Diadem because we had a reason to go around the map (for our objectives and for fates, and searching for coffers), whereas this system incentivizes staying in one area killing the same mobs over and over until leveling up.
Given all that, I would have much preferred they just forced us back in Diadem by using Spoil->Protean->Gear instead of this.
Is it possible it might get better?
Sure, but that wouldn't change that its first impression sucks.

anyone knows how jp players feels about eureka?
Books had different content that you needed to do so it was at least a bit different and you could at least use fates and stuff to level up...so yes for me this is even worse. You will get something re-used (and someone posted that each final step for the beginning of a relic was still an unique model in the older relics) and other than this re-used gear and weapon set you will get nothing great for the normal world. No leveling up your jobs, no getting more numbers for some achievement..and only a couple of stones if a NM spawn and you get gold..I get that eureka so far is a huge let down but to say that atmas or old relic steps were better is just plain retarded, I preffer to do this a hundred times over fate farming for atmas (they used to be 1%drop rate remember that), books, light farming or running ARF 100000 times

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Like Diadem, I feel like most of the fun is condensed into the boss monsters that spawn only occasionally, while the rest is largely a tedious grind.
Hopefully the NMs aren't totally random because they give a ridiculous amount of EXP.
It's new content tailored for hard old school grinders, that is all. Just like Omega, Primals and Ultimate is for the raiding community. Expert being for dungeon players. Chill a bit, since there may be some fixes regarding RNG and exp %. The thing I'm not really into is that this content the the only way to get the Relic, which is as powerful as the one you can get at Savage. Then again, both things are HARD, and made for different tastes players.
