Off course not, but if you see it that way, Microsoft could just make XboxLive free. They do not need the money either. Hell they could even hand over free X360 to everyone or at least halve the MSRP because... they do not need the money.

It's not because you earn money from other projects/activities that a company doesn't "need" money.

Even if you aren't in the red, money can help you to expand and more importantly, to stay competitive. So you may see it as "money isn't needed", but money's always needed.

If tomorrow XIII-2 is a complete failure and if future Eidos title aren't successful as well (Hitman Absolution, etc.), then money will be needed.

there are enough players that will support the game, if your not satisfied just wait for another patch
with that mindset they could implement payment after 3.0 and people would still complain

I agree with the part about it's not about the cost of the monthly fee, it's about the servers becoming EVEN MORE empty.

No doubt many people here have tried "other games" (maybe over the last weekend *ahem*) and came back to FFXIV thinking, what can i do here?

Please SE if you are adamant to start charging, you MUST merge servers or allow server transfers.

personally... 15 bucks per month are nothing. It's something you can pay with your lunch money.

I sort of agree with your other points but there is nowhere near enough players to keep this thing afloat financially. Not even close.

Facts:

1. You plan to charge after reducing existing class skill sets but prior to introducing new jobs.

While I agree that charging might hurt the game a bit, I wouldn't look at the classes skills revisions as a reduction but as an efficiency and identity effort (and we still miss the 10 traits, and what info we got was not final ...).

I think the same, unhappy players should just take a break and come back in 1.21 or even 2.0 then. Yoshi-P and the devs cannot just pop up magical changes every few days, so people complaining "there is nothing to do" or "no content" should just play something else until they are bored of that too.

May i ask why you and everyone else think the price tag for FFXIV is 14.99? when it's really 12.99$? not if they change it to 14.99$ but right now the cost of the game is 12.99$ a month.

Also for everyone else they did say they be a discount and top of that p2p wont start soon 1.20 hits they going to give us sometime to play before they start up p2p.

Not everyone is from US, so the prices are differant, perhaps a direct conversion from Renshi's currency to USD came out at $15 which is a logical way to look at it, for me at full price it will be £8.99

They also havent said how much the discount will be, it could be half price, or it could be £7.99, which isnt much, but a £1 discount is still a discount no matter what anyone says.

Also the game does need to start to get some money to keep the shareholders happy, I havent checked the stocks but I can be sure the share price for Square Enix Holdings has been dropping over the last year and it will keep dropping until they start getting some money in.

Edit: the share prices for Sqare Enix Holdings since release has had a major increase on the 30th aug, then dropped alot on the 2nd sept, appart from that increase it has steadily dropped since CE release of the game, which is more of a view of what it looks like.
