To be fair, if this was synced, Shiva EX is old content that not a lot of people remember the specifics of. When I pull old ARR exs in mentor roulette, I literally go look up a guide to skim through because I dont remember certain strats. (Except Titan Ex).

I mean that should be what most if not all people do correct? As a healer I have to know all the mechanics of every dungeon/trial/raid, I decide to heal in. The same with tanking. I don't go in blind with any content. Just not how I'm built, especially not for higher tier content. But this was Shiva with a bunch of people who had multiple 70's...imagine the magnitude of my facepalms.

Synastry is one of those skills I forget about far too often (and only remember afterwards) but I’m also not sure how and when to use it. Does it go on the tank, or the more fragile of the two DPSes? If I heal the synast-ered person directly do they get the bonus healing as well?

Basically whoever you cast it on gets a healing bonus even if they aren't the target healed. So if a dps took an aoe in a pull and you need to heal the tank you could cast it on the dps and heal the tank, thus healing them both.

I’m on PS4 so I couldn’t really look things up unless I keep my laptop with me, but I’d also feel like I’m holding up everyone else while I stop to read the instructions? The one time I resorted to it was when I’d gone blind into the Binding Coil not realising how difficult it was, and the amount of text for that was pretty overwhelming...

I’m torn on going into things blind or not. I don’t want spoilers for story content but it’s never very intuitive encountering new mechanics... whenever I get into EX content I’ll be reading ahead for those, though.

So, my ingame wife and I ran Expert and got Fractal HM (her as PLD and me as RDM). Pulled straight from the jump pad to the first boss, and we AoE'd everything down. Everything was fine and all, nothing seemed out of place, but then both the other DPS and the healer dropped party immediately after the group was burned down. They didn't express any anger or disapproval of her tactics or pull, so it's completely open they queued together and something happened irl they both had to take care of, but again, nothing was communicated.

Took a minute to replenish them, but that was possibly the most lolworthy thing that's happened in there to me.

LotA in alliance roulette, the divided three bosses with the platforms. Our ranged dps insisted on running up towards the boss, leaving me, a nin, to do my duty and stay on the platform to keep it activated. People were shouting at the ranged to come back, but to no avail. Eventually I just said "well nothing for me to do then but sit down and get carried I guess xD" and I sat down for the remainder of the fight as nothing ever got close enough for me to do anything.

Got a comm and some sympathy headpats from a Lala though so I wasn't all a wash.

My first playthough, I never spoiled anything for myself as the game tells you who you're going to face in the dungeon. The guides (Mizztech's in specific) only cover the fights. Its the tech age, I'm not asking you go read up 5 paragraphs per dungeon, youtube has you covered, as do the wiki's.

As for Synasty; If you cast it on the tank and then cast Benefic on the tank for 3000, the tank will be healed for 3000 + 1200. This is in addition to the 20% healing boost, so what would have been a 3000 Benefic turns into a 3600 + 1400 heal. 5000. It's a +66% healing boost on the target if you spam them. So yes, always heal the Tank(s) first. Most of the dps in the game have a way of healing themselves.

So one beautiful day I needed to do levelling roulette. My luck grabbed me Haukke Manor. Party set up was Tank - DRK, me on SMN, co-dps Monk and CNJ for a healer. During whole run besides the DPS I had to either part-time heal or full time heal.Multiple reasons. DRK obviously just unlocked his job and hasn't been in Haukke for a while. Monk is doing whatever he wants (runs to rooms without checking if anyone is following, gets aggro and doesn't run back to tank). Then for a while Monk just plays the tank which was fine at the beginning (because aggro was all over the place) but after I ask for Grit and tank equips it the fact that Monk keeps on doing is annoying.Anyways, Tank seems to struggle with aggro even Grit on (which is a miracle because on one of my first runs as DRK I was dropped there, I have run out of MP quickly so I was just standing around being 'pretteh' and still holding aggro smh). I am patient and all and Monk decided to hold back when he realised I am staying behind and waiting to do everything until tank comes around. We manage the bosses all good until the end boss, where me and healer are the ones mainly handling the lamps. Then tank dies like a boss and I realise that our CNJ (non sprout) is not going to rezz him. I figure I have swift and rezz. So I did it, healed tank up. Healer died to avoidable aoe, then dps. (But sorry since you force me to act like healer I will prioritise shit like a healer). I hard cast raise healer and heal him up and then swift cast rez Monk. 0 comms for me >.>. Of course.
P.S. And no I don't blame healer for the whole summoner needs to physick/rezz shit. The damage was going everywhere and keeping shit in tact took quite a lot of patience.

Synastry no longer add an additionnal +20% healing boost since Stormblood.
It just allow you to heal one target at full potency and the other (with synastry on him) get 40% of that heal.

Got a super weird healer who keep using Rescue on me everytime it available in Hell's Lid few days ago
I was neither standing in AoE nor stay out of her healing range when my co-dps was standing in the really bad spot with 3 stacks debuff but didn't even get a single healing, eh?
I thought she misclicked at first or probably confused me with another dps since we were range dps but not the same class.
Nope, I was the only one there that caught her eyes… so many rescues and overheal on me instead of tank or my co-dps (I saw the tank using clemency almost all of the run… poor PLD).
Even the run went quit well(but lack of healing) and mobs died very quickly I still think it was the most stressful run I ever had.
