What motivates me while waiting for those long queues?

Multi-tasking. I like to write as a hobby so I spend my time between duty finder queues (if I am on DPS and when I was doing my DRG's Relic/Zodiac) writing and brainstorming. Some times I just browse the forums, sometimes I do daily stuff (like provisions, challenge log, beastmen quests, Gold Saucer stuff)

What motivates me in general?

To be the best duh!

I did the Zodiac only for the PLD, my main job. But I eventually have leveled all the jobs, and done the relic up to Zenith with all, it's nearly like part of the job quests, and not that hard now to do. I decided not to do the other relic quests for the alt classes when atmas were as difficult as they were initially, and later I have had no time to do them. There are nice alternatives to the relic weapons for the other jobs and I have other things to do.

I leveled the WHM for stoneskin to 34, then later to 50. The BLM for swiftcast then later to 50. Later the ACN (SMN and SCH) for Eye for an Eye, and also to 50. BRD for Quelling strikes and later to 50. Etc. etc. Eventually I leveled all jobs. All are interesting and give you different views of things. You also try to get the gear for all the jobs as much as you can etc.

The first jobs were different, but once the low level and guildhest roulettes appeared, and also the challenge log, it's easy to level classes in your spare time while you cap tomes and get gear and complete content with your main job. I started to craft while waiting for the queues when I leveled the first DPS class (THM), then got interested in crafters, started to level all of them for the cross-class skills, etc. etc. So finally all crafters are level 50. But I don't have the latest gear. I don't need the gil really, I suppose. Maybe when I finish with the gatherers i'll start with the Lucis tools, let's see. Having the cross-class skills was the incentive to level all the crafters. Then the gear to reach 3 stars. Not yet 4 star crafter.

The thing is you can change your focus. You level a crafter, then you are tired, forget about it and level a disciple of war or magic, then later you again level a crafter, or do a beast tribe, and so on. There are many things to do. I try not to see things as chores. It's the good part of being able to cap the tomes without much effort, you don't see the game as a chore. When there were no duty roulettes, tomes were more difficult to cap and it was much more of a chore than it is now.

My last classes to level have been the gathering classes. I started very early with the miner but later left all the gathering classes for the end. Miner will be the last one to level to 50. I don't have just now the incentive to gear up the gatherers to be able to gather the highest items, I don' know if in the future I will, maybe yes.

I got my smn zeta and just gave up on it for my drg. I just can't take a repeat of allllll those steps...even if I could get near instant queue. I'm in awe that people get 2,3, or more zeta.

I main DPS but queue as WAR in T4 for 200 times to get bear mount and also get my ifrit pony as WAR as well.

P.S. If only paladin's mount isn't steroid lion ...

What motivates me to play and run DPS? I like the role and think the overall stuff for DPS is just more...engaging I guess.

How do I pass queue times?
Usually I play with my wifey so queues aren't as bad, specially if one of us is healing but if that isn't an option. I'll have an LP on youtube playing or I'll work on a model kit while waiting. (I have a big desk, so plenty of space.) And of course the classic, I'll just craft during the queue time.

Myself, I just like seeing how good I am. I like a challenge as a DPS to see where I can improve. During queue, I'm usually doing something else like browsing YouTube or Netflix. Sometimes if something about my job of choice bothers me, I'll be looking up guides so I can try things out.

As for what motivates me, the desire to keep improving myself.

For what I do during long queue times:

• Beast Tribes
• Goldsaucer stuff
• Weekly turn in
• Daily turn in
• Get housing ideas by invading other homes
• Work on gathering items to craft housing stuff
• Work on positioning of furniture
• Play my 3DS

Honestly? I'm surprised these dates are only 2 years old cause I went back to page 1,002 for this.

Also, I guess to refine my reason for playing DPS. With how the game is designed, everything sorta just boils down to DPS. While I enjoy tanking and healing, I just feel there is something more enjoyable in being just pure DPS. It might be that, DPS don't have another mandatory job within their role like healers and tanks, so they can be designed to be more dynamic.

Well it is quite an old thread but whatever.

The reason i'm willing to struggle for so long to get into a dungeon is because I don't feel at ease when tanking or healing. If something goes wrong I always blame myself and put too many stress on me. So I guess they aren't for me.

Now what i'm doing while waiting depends:

1) is it a roulette or whatever?
Then mostly keep doing msq

2) is it a duty required to progress the Main Story?
Then it can be crafting, gathering, gold saucer gate, diablo 3, WoW, YouTube,...
