However, I work full time so I really don't have time to farm PvP exclusively to get anywhere near the high ranking and when I do play the queues are pretty slow.
You'll find most of us are also in full-time work or education. This excuse is so old. Three days I didn't even play this week because I was so tired I did one PvE roulette then went straight to bed - if you actually watch the ladder in the season, you'll find not everyone in the top 100 plays daily.

I'd like to get tons of practice in before jumping into ranked (as I don't wanna let the team down) but it's hard sometimes when I can only play certain evenings (aside from raid).
You've had an entire preseason to do this; a pre-season where I actually whined about the length because it has gone on for like a month+. Preseason ranked is pretty much practice anyway barely anyone actually played their main role for the whole thing, and there were plenty of names that I have never seen before (hence why practice queues are dead).

On that note, no. The incentive to play ranked right now is already really bad, for example I didn't want to play enough to reach top 100 back in HW because I was pushing for R1 in WoW instead; so all that was left to play for were tier titles I already owned and jewellery I already had; they've only just made it worth my while to play every season; even if I don't commit. Why make it any worse just to appease you? That is selfish.
