One large concern about the action to be taken against players is that the exploit began being looked at/being used only after someone had contacted a GM in-game about it, and when asking about whether or not it was against ToS, was told that the GM could not say if it was or wasn't. If there's so much disconnect that a GM cannot say if it violates any of the game's terms, with no client-side adjustment, I think anything past a 24 hour ban would be absolutely insane.

I assume its standard procedure for a GM to say that until they look into it.That being said if the GM couldnt say at the time common sense would be for the player not to use until the exploit being confirmed as allowed or not.Whats probably happened though is once the majority of the player base got wind of this glitch existing they rushed out to abuse it as much as possible before it got fixed.

The thing is if SE actually rolls back achievements, earned items, and gil earned through using the exploit, most players having all their ill-gotten gains deleted would likely just leave the game in a huff anyway.

But seriously, if you're still attempting to use it today, you're just asking for trouble at this point. Don't experiment!

Exactly. I do think SE needs to ban players that repeatedly used it (like those Ultimate and Savage sellers) but I think players that were caught up in parties that used it without any foreknowledge or just tried it once to see shouldn't get their accounts revoked. Suspensions and rollbacks for them.

Having an unpatched exploit for a year doesn't give you the moral to start ban hammers

If you aren't banned for violating the ToS for any amount of time, it doesnt give you the right to do it freely or unpunished forever. The "I am doing this bad thing and still got unpunished, so this is legit" statement is false.

Exploits are fixed when reported. The reason behind the serious stance SE got in this case, is because it seems all the people who found the exploit didn't reported it and used it for their own interest. Still no one reported evidence of the report done "long time ago". If no proof, it never happened. SE got notice of the exploit from external sources and this make it even worse for the offenders.

Serious actions against them are the minimal thing I can expect, those players had spread in the community the false message that you can do whatever exploit you want, for all the time you want and get unpunished for it, and this is worse than the exploit itself.

Hacking and Botting is about removing the gil, by removing the bots all they do is make it harder to get rid of the gil they are making. SE prefers to hit RMT hard, when they ban, they ban in mass because it's the most likely way to remove gil from the servers however if all they did was constantly ban the bots then they would just have the RMT play safer which would make it harder to remove the gil from servers.

As for this exploit, this effects the integrity of endgame content and those who knowingly used it for clear and didn't stop are easy to punish because it's blatantly obvious. They had to actively type in the command to activate it.

While yes you might think it's easy to ban a hacker/bot you also can't assume they are bots, if a person is named Xccd Khjgj, they can't assume that they are an Bot, it could just be a player who is lazy and wants to farm, so they have to do their homework before banning them. And again unlike the LB issue that is an easy catch, people purposely typed in the command and knew it was an exploit and continued to do it.
