Wow, that line about them investigating whether or not it was reported 4 months ago sounds like if it was, not only are players in trouble, but whoever "from the GM team" it was reported to that sat on it.

...and the whole thing definitely sounds like the official response when the ffxi salvage exploit was discovered.

Again, the line is fuzzy, but I tend to find something like duping is a more obvious "this shouldn't work" than "I used a skill implemented in the game and it works."

The line isn't that fuzzy. What you're saying is true, but not in any way that matters. If you had to make a top 10 list of most obvious exploits, yes, duping would be higher than using a skill outside its clearly-intended area. But this isn't a top 10 list, and there's no reason at all why "only the top x infraction types" should be taken seriously.

If you search for Ungarmax on the forums, you'll find absolutly nothing more than two days old posts.
And on reddit, only one very small post of a twitch clip can be found. And that absolutly doesn't consitute a good bug report. At most, it's a "look at this person cheating". But nothing more.

I have no idea why people say that it was reported 4 months ago. The very first acceptable report was done yesterday. (At least in english, that is.)

If there's someone to blame, it's us, the community, for thinking that stuff get reported and fixed without us having to do anything.

Didn't they say they removed it so people can't replicate the exploit? If they kept it up in the accepted bugs section more people would find out about it and try it before it got fixed so they threw it under the bus and most likely forgot about it.

Have you done a proper bug report about the Ungarmax issue yourself though? And why wouldn't you use the official forums for that, especially if it's obviously the best place to fill a bug report and see it get accepted or denied.

One large concern about the action to be taken against players is that the exploit began being looked at/being used only after someone had contacted a GM in-game about it, and when asking about whether or not it was against ToS, was told that the GM could not say if it was or wasn't. If there's so much disconnect that a GM cannot say if it violates any of the game's terms, with no client-side adjustment, I think anything past a 24 hour ban would be absolutely insane.

I assume its standard procedure for a GM to say that until they look into it.That being said if the GM couldnt say at the time common sense would be for the player not to use until the exploit being confirmed as allowed or not.Whats probably happened though is once the majority of the player base got wind of this glitch existing they rushed out to abuse it as much as possible before it got fixed.

I get the same vibe. And that investigation took months iirc and banned what 200+ accounts? I remember it was a big talking subject back in 2009 or something.
