What people on here aren't mentioning is there's actually a boys' version of this holiday called Tango no Sekku. SE ignores it in this game. In FFXI it's called the feast of swords.

And yes, you are entitled to your opinion. But calling it your opinion doesn't change the fact that its a weird point of view lacking perspective.
Can we not try to use the (completely false) wage gap to try to downplay someone's valid opinion? This guy took to a forum about a video game to discuss his frustrations with that video game and you think because of (again, an entirely false issue) the wage gap he should just sit back and not be bothered by the disparity between make and female character treatment in this game?

I agree - this isn't a huge issue. I also believe it comes from a purely business-minded standpoint from SE. Most people irrespective of their gender irl play female characters, cater to your largest demographic first. It isn't rocket science.

See, there's an actual rebuttal instead of alluding to some dark, nebulous "bigger deals" that women have to deal with irl which apparently have to take presedence.

I can say from first hand experience being a woman is pretty awesome. I don't think we need more holidays and glams in a video game to pay us back for perceived slights irl. We certainly don't need to take away from the credibility of someone's entirely understandable (if not poorly worded) complaint about an entirely unrelated topic.

Geez, and you thought the OP lacked perspective.

That's very interesting to know. I wonder why it is overlooked in FFXIV?

As others pointed out it wasn't in XI initially either. I never played XI so I'm not sure if there were people asking for an equivilent like here, though that might be why. -shrugs-

probably because in real life the problematic "Boys Day" became "childrens day" for some reason. Just forget it in the first place and we avoid that entire argument. There was some neat stuff with it too, carp flags and little samurai dolls, it's still celebrated in certain areas but less so internationally because of some PC dribble.

With an event called the feast of swords, I 100% expect ( and hope )there to be several scantily clad men.

Because the postwar Japanese government changed the name to children's day in 1948 during the establishment of Golden Week as a time for Japanese families to spend time together and appreciate one another.

Interesting to know. Where I live it's been boys day till recently.. though recently is getting fuzzier and fuzzier. Maybe around the late 90's? most families around where I live actually still do the boys day thing, but schools don't really have the activities they used to for it.

Can you explain to me why 'Boy's Day' specifically is problematic?

One can only hope. I'd be a little afraid of the sort of dialogue they would come up with for an event with a name like that, though, especially after last year's Heavensturn (Which was, admittedly hilarious as a one-off thing, but I'm not sure I could take an entire holiday's worth of dick-jokes every year...)
