If gender inequality is what the "current trend" is and what's making them money than that doesn't make them look good imho.
It's called business.
If you would take a look at japan alone on their idol/otaku/anime culture, you clearly see that there's a huge bias going on there and it clearly reflects on the merchandise they offer online, too.
So there's no surprise that SE tries to incorporate some of this.
