It could be both since for one it is a lake and two up to that point we had a few calamities already. Makes sense why a lot of aether was being locked there with only one place to go but back to Hydalyn. That and I'm not sure we know when exactly Midgardsormr went to guard/sleep there since from what we know from the Omega series he was fairly beaten up when he came here. Probably best for different thread.

Bahamut the Wyrm or Bahamut the Primal? The primal bahamut was vastly more powerful than the real deal. Bahamut was likely as strong as Nidhogg, but Wyrms are not that powerful once you know their weakpoints (you can pluck their eyes out no problem). Middy is a wyrm god that sails through space and is vastly more powerful than his children.
