My Opinion of the Little Ladies Day Event

Clearly some people are offended that there isn't a male equivalent of Little Lady's Day

If there are some individuals who are legitimately getting offended that there isn't a male equivalent of this, then they need to grow a backbone and stop getting offended at silly things like that.

What would a "male event" even consist of?

A 25% increase of all gil earned and an emote for not washing your hands after you go to the bathroom.

A. Idols, but this time men
Male idols are a thing. A big thing. A JP based company would likely know this. Hell, even Sanrio made a boy band to complement their girl band!

B. Feast of Swords
The event was made so that ladies got their holiday for them and guys had an event to celebrate them. Considering that it still a yearly thing (under SE no less), I don’t think anyone would spontaneously combust if such a holiday would hop games.

C. Crush on NPCs
In kinda the same vein as A, male characters have a fanbase ( look up the second hand prices that the little aymeric/haurchefant figures go for now D:)! Why not dedicate it to them? The silly dating game tease made all the JP fan artists I follow go wild. Just make something fun celebrating everyones favorite dudes. Or repurpose side NPCs *coughCompanyofHeroes*. Or made new likable guys I dunno.

end note, I don't really care one way or another as its a filler holiday, but the idea of a male centric event being some impossible feat is silly imo :3

It may be a "really minor" thing to you but the treatment of male characters in comparison to female characters has been a hot button issue lately whether you like it or not and offering some actual ideas as to why some of these issues persist instead of laughing it off because it doesn't effect me personally seemed like a better use of my time.

Honestly speaking, there's no reason NOT to have an event featuring boys other than SE felt there was no need. Why? Who knows. But considering this game was developed well before #MeToo and other social movements, I'm pretty sure it had little to do with worrying about offending people and more to do with the fact that they want to make their favourite customer base (young heterosexual males) happy. Your suppositions that it would offend people to have an event featuring male idols/supermodels/[insert objectified ideal here] are pretty silly. I could not care even a little bit less about these female idols we're going to be dealing with again but I'd like to see some boys in a similar scenario. How is that offensive? Will women start wailing about how there's no female representation for a single event? Will heterosexual men whine about being left out because one event is not tailored to appeal to them? I think better of you folks than that. I think XIV players are rational enough to realize that a short seasonal event in a video game isn't a statement about gender equality or commentary on social issues - it's just something the devs thought would be fun to break up the monotony a bit.

I do have a personal stake in how people are represented in games. I don't like what I see in the industry overall. But this thread, and this game in general, are not good examples of the problems in the industry in my view. If anything I'm of the opinion that females are treated BETTER in this game than the guys, which is why you get loons like OP making ridiculous demands. There's inequality here but it's not in the places people usually look.

I'm gonna be honest, part of my job entails cleaning the restrooms. The women's restroom is always, ALWAYS way worse compared to the rest, like if you took all the other restrooms and combined their dirtyness the womens would still be worse. Just sayin

...So? It'd be a celebration of males and possibly be a source of a nice outfit made with male characters in mind. I mean, even in the Sanrio characters I used as an example the girls are a pop band and the guys are a rock band. Whatever NPCs would be involved wouldn't necessarily need to be a 1:1 of the Songbirds :P
