If i see a tank that COULD handle bigger pulls, i tell them so, too. Not saying wall to wall and all, but maybe abit more.
IF they fail however, that is my fault, not theirs. They listened to me and it was too much for them. And for me, the healer. At least it depends, but its not only one person.

Tanks saying they are rusty or new can do pulls how they want however, i still DO tell rusty tanks if they do good enough for bigger pulls, too.... but as above, if that fails, its not reeeeeeeally their fault.

I concur, this is also my attitude as a healer. When I spot they're a good tank I say, 'feel free to pull more if you're comfortable', and they usually do. I've been levelling PLD recently and I've come to realise healers like us are a real minority. Last night I ran Snowcloak for the first time as tank and you wouldn't believe just how gorramn whiney the healer was, complaining about getting aggro and dying when they were the one seemingly setting up camp directly in the snow drift twenty yalms behind, going crazy on the DPS without any attempt to move to me.

Grow a thicker skin when playing an MMO. Don't let one bad run kill your desire to play a given job.

If you're really shaky, make a full FC/friendlist party, so you can be pretty sure that people won't blow a gasket if you play poorly.

Have a very specific plan for what you're going to do right after you've finished gathering a huge pack of trash. Besides popping defensive cooldowns, as a DRK you need to generate and spend both MP and blood gauge. For me, this is abusing TBN/Quietus, and spamming AD, the occasional DA/AD, and maybe even a Souleater combo mixed in there. When TBN is on cd, I keep an eye on my HP/MP to determine whether I'm going to AD, DA/AD, or Souleater combo, maybe even cut it off at Syphon Strike. I make sure that I have enough MP to TBN when it's up - that is your lifeline for huge packs, and not because of the small amount of mitigation.

Shadow Wall is only for trash - you can pop Rampart early on a boss, because it'll be back up when it's time to move on to more trash - I use TBN for boss mosquito bites.

Had an all around miserable run yesterday on an alt. It wasn't filled with wipes or missed mechanics, just crummy attitudes all around.

I was doing roulette as MNK and it landed me in Toto-Rak with a very antagonistic tank and DPS (BLM). The BLM would routinely run ahead of the tank and grab aggro, stating that it was making the run faster and he was doing more damage this way. The tank eventually had enough of it and told him the next time he does it, he's tanking the mob. So naturally the BLM decides to grab aggro on the next set of trash mobs, but the tank picks up the aggro after the healer casts a heal on the BLM (since, if the BLM goes down a bystander would be affected I guess).

BLM then picks up aggro on the second boss and this time the healer doesn't heal for a bit, and the three of us stand there watching him run around the room. Eventually the tank grabs aggro after letting the BLM get beat up for a bit (he never dies) and the arguments begin. The BLM calls the tank a child, the tank pokes at the BLM for constantly rushing ahead of the group and pulling aggro everywhere. BLM eventually accuses us of being in a party (we're not - aside from the roulette formed party) for not helping him earlier and then opts to fall behind us to type arguments back and forth. I tried to say there was no point in arguing as we we would only be together for a short period of time, but the BLM wouldn't have it. We eventually clear our way to the final boss with him constantly lagging behind and not joining in the combat so he can type.

On the final boss he give up fighting and states, "There is no point in helping annoying a**holes" and he stands in a corner of the room. The only action he takes is to waste the LB in an area without any mobs/the boss so we can't use it for the reason, "...cuz u keep annoying me." We eventually clear, no thanks to the BLM. The dungeon lasted a good 5-8 minutes longer than it needed to, as we were lacking our second DPS.

Ultimately, I'm not happy that the tank didn't just pick up the aggro off the DPS but I can somewhat get why they did it, and they did state their intention before letting the BLM attempt to tank. But overall the BLM just had such a worse attitude that it overshadows the tank's actions by far, imo. I wish we could have votekicked him but by the time we were able to votekick we were in combat with the boss and you can't put up a vote mid-combat.


The BLM only had classes leveled up to 30, so maybe he was thinking he was helping earlier on, but he wouldn't listen when we told him he should kick the habit of pulling ahead of the tank early on. He would only reply that "...it makes no difference at low levels."

Bardam's, as PLD. Mentor healer says "why not shield oath? " in the middle of the first boss fight. Its at like 20% and I'm not really taking much damage because i'm not eating AoEs. Why would I be in Shield Oath if the damage I'm taking is laughably low and I'm not having enmity issues? I reply "not much damage going out". That gets followed by dead silence. I guess that healer realized they goofed by saying that.

Once, in Duty Roulette Leveling at Dzmael Darkhold, as soon as one of our members sees the dungeon, he or she leaves, and we started waiting...

Waiting got slightly long, another one leaves, and having me and some other waiting, the other leaves, leaving me waiting at the entrance, and I was like "Is cool, I can wait", and wait I did. People joined, then left... then joined again, then left again... Apparently given I was at the entrance, nobody wanted to waste their time and it was easier to just re-queue, but I was a DPS (I think) and was all like "No way, took me about an hour to enter, not going to waste my chance". I was a naive kid.

Some of the people who "visited" me asked me? "Why not re-queue instead of waiting here?", but I was all like "There's no need, I have faith in the people", faith that made me wait my silly 90 minutes of the dungeon until the Duty Failed promp appeared with its ominous sound and ending this sad story...

It does make a difference. You are making it harder on your tank when you as a dps or healer pull this crap...harder on everyone really. That BLM needs to learn what teamwork is. If you are anything BUT a tank and are pulling, then you damn well better be willing to actually TANK those baddies you pull because the actual tank is well within their rights to let your ass die.

Got The Great Gubal Library on a roulette, and my RDM kept pulling boss hate from the DRK. How weird is that?

Ugh... Yet another Emanation run with a DPS who doesn't know what a duty action is begging for a raise after failing Vril mechanics 3+ times. The healers left you on the floor for a reason. You're nothing but a liability who's looking to get carried and not worth the MP to raise every 60 seconds.

I'm level 68 WAR now and I'm losing the will to live.

Doma Castle - a MCH that hasn't heard of Gauss Barrel and a NIN that's never heard of Huton or Death Blossom. Speedpulls go about as well as you expect, I run out of cooldowns and die.

SCH: "You're not a good enough tank to take all those mobs."
Me: "Well shit, better find a replacement that is then."

Promptly booted to abuse from the NIN, but, that was generally quite satisfying.

Moral of the story: Don't blame the tank for your terrible DPS.
