Surprisingly, The outdated MMO is WOW, not FFXI/XIV1.2

I go back to WoW every now and again. I am basically always ready to jump in the endgame as a casual. It is fun. WoW still has THE best PvP out of all MMOs. No one ever played WoW for the story. If you get a good guild, you can raid, do dungeons, grind stuff, do PvP, whatever. I enjoy playing it with some old friends every now and then. I also love how WoW is a lot faster.7

Now I don't know what prompted the 'outdated' and XIV in the same sentence. XIV is one of the best MMOs out there at the moment. Story-telling is on par with SW:TOR, the combat is engaging despite being slow, the looks are unique to a FF game etc etc. WoW is old, and it has been molested in various ways, but I still wouldn't compare the two. It's like comparing ESO and any of the previously mentioned games. Combat is nothing alike, in any sort of way, the talent system is completely different, the way you immerse into the world is different...

I understand by all means why WoW doesn't appeal to people anymore, but... What is the point of this post? Midcore content? Wasn't that was EX primals and stuff were for? PvP rankings, earning gil etc? Idk..

I, like many other people, play games for fun. I play them to relax, to escape RL.

If I have to do stuff I do not like ("work") in something I'm supposed to be having fun, then it starts becoming less of a game and more like a second job. And you know, that's what hardcore raiding is, IMO. You put in tedious hours upon hours upon hours into getting good enough to perform at maximum, grind all the best gear, get killed on a boss over and over and over and over and over again, for what? some pixels on a screen?

I also watch videos sometimes of people screaming in rage at the game, their teammates, etc and I have to think, is that person REALLY having fun? Sure don't look like it..

Subjob could be done pretty much with only doing leveling in dunes, just not the skeletons, but this is an MMO so the ''force'' you talk about is expected. I mean, do you do dungeons as in roulettes solo? You can't and you have to do it with someone. Yes it's easier here because it's cross server, but it's actually less social to do so. I like FF14, but FFXI at it's primetime was just better experience and a whole different dimension that was amazing back in the days.

Unfortunately, I didn't play XI during its primetime, but I had a good time in XIV 1.1x-1.2x:
The job quests required a party to do,people were happy to help you,so when they need help, you'll help them too.
You can solo leveling,but you'll level faster in an exp party.
Hunt for moogle keystones with my fc mates and see people die & laught at them.
(We were killing some marlboros, when a LV99 patrol tree is near you, you have to walk, not run to dodge the BAD BREATH,& stop doing anything, or the trees will hear you and one shot you,that was so fun.)

If you have only played WOW or other western MMOs，you will never know how good a community can be. how humane a MMO can offer

Now, you don't have to spend 5-20mins to shout for a party,you can do whatever you want at anytime, everything is easy & fast, a relaxing theme park, sound good,
but please ask yourself:what you've got ? a patch that will burn out in three days, a pile of fancy,meaningless,lifeless gears,glamours,emotes,toys,pixels, the rudeness,selfish in DF, and the loneliness....are they really what you want?

You can feel the real peace & comfort in XIV 1.2x, because the danger, cruel world bring us together.

I agree when a game goes from play to work it is time to put it down. People like to dish out the word casual as a insult, but its also a reality... I like to casually have fun and truth is FF 14 is incredibly casual and friendly. I can toss hours a day at it or just 30 mins and never really feel behind.

WoW has improved much since WoD and the god awful garrisons. I nearly quit the game because of them, and the almost countless issues that plagued WoD. Class Halls in Legion are kinda like garrisons but they are basically everything garrisons should have been. They are social areas as well. Legion got the game back on track, hopefully BfA keeps in there. I wouldn't consider the game outdated by any means, it's just getting old. They keep the game up to date regularly and also upgrade the engine with each expansion. The art style that they use may not appeal to everyone, but personally I love it.

As to this game, I just came back from a couple month break. I've always played this game casually...I just play it a lot when I do. My "hardcore" days have long since passed me by. At most I'm probably a midcore player. I just don't do Savage raids and the like, and I usually don't hit up Ex primals until the end of the expansion or the beginning of the next. I have my gripes with this game, but overall I'm pleased. Can't really compare it much to WoW though despite the fact Yoshi took a bit of inspiration from it. It's just not the same.

FF XIV has a ways to go before it can legit compete with WoW, but I'm hopeful it will one day get there. They just need to somehow fix the "server limitations" that seem to plague the game every step of the way.

Legion really was a big improvement over WoD, but for some reason i couldn't click with it. Didn't like the acceleration to the pace of combat and to make things worse I rerolled DH which is probably the most action-y class. Tried to level some of my alts instead but the leveling for legion felt really uninspired, I know part of their design was to rush you to cap cuz that is what their player base likes, but guess im more used to the whole 30+ hours of story thing now. Was hoping the, forgot their names, the crack addict nelves? Was hoping their story would get my story libido going :P But it was ok at best and gated and disruptive at worst.

Was also namely just playing off tokens by that point but since the token prices really hiked i just couldn't justify the cost personally either. (got legion as a gift so chances are i wouldn't have tried legion otherwise XD)

On the new xpac haven't really looked into it much. usually the cinematic gets my attention but this newest one didn't. That said my favorite recent cinematic was WoDs and we know how that played out XD Still, they tend to always really deliver with trailers and this last one being kinda B rated ish didn't really get my attention. Think testing for it starts soon right? might check out some YT coverage of it. legion at the very least didn't make me feel "robbed" so maybe a month of new one could be ok.

They started alpha testing a week or 2 ago, actually. Invites for that are scarce though unless you're a fairly well known Youtuber or streamer, and they are already covering it in pretty great detail. Just keep in mind that everything is subject to change.

TBH, the thing I miss most about WoW is the GMs taking cheaters seriously.

They wouldn't let gather bots last even a day if you reported them and actually cared enough to pursue legal action (And successfully, at that) against one of the market's biggest producers of botting software when they got sick of having to constantly update the game to block them.

Yeah like the people in FF14 want to down raid or extreme primals but they don't wanna do a decent rotation. I guess decent opener/rotation game is suddenly a job. But that's another topic I suppose.
