Well lets face the facts, repetition is must for most Online games in one way or another. Unless you have some kind of goal like all achievements and such or play solo it's no surprise people get burned out. Try doing all anima relics after doing all Zodiac weapons. It is a pain, yet way better than FFXI relic and mythic farming. I did 4 relics and mythics when they were first released. -.- yeah this does not seem so bad after all. Now a days I only go in for daily for xp on jobs I don't use.

This isn't the case of every single MMORPG out there. That's nonsense. GW2's expansions and living story have been constantly adding new things and changing the formula up. WoW's expansions are vastly different from one another with whole new ways of playing each time. ESO has tons of character progression, etc.

FFXIV is a game that I wish I didn't enjoy. The problem is that it's the only mmo out there who caters so wonderfully to my needs as a roleplayer. Character customization is great, the overwhelming amounts of outfit options, the excellent housing(if you can get one), the emote system, even the way your character will turn their head to look at who you click on. All wonderful details in a colorful world of imagination.

But man the content is the most boring I've ever experienced in an MMORPG(and I've been playing since before Everquest was a thing). Content is slow and boring, the classes are homogenized, the gear progression is flat and dull with no options outside of pure vertical progression. Dungeons are speed-run fodder in no time. Just so very dull with no signs that they will try anything new or liven things up.

I mainly play it for the story and grinding levels for other classes. It has it's faults, but it's good to take a few month break every now and then.

I like your perspective because I've tried getting into GW2 and ESO after starting with FFxiv (backwards to what you have, I assume). GW2 had my interest but started to get overwhelming with how I wanted to progress my character as far as "what build would be viable", "what did i think i would enjoy". Areas were pretty, i ran through a few doing everything I could but did end up wanting more story related focus on what I was supposed to do. There was a huge gap between story and I got bored.

ESO on the other hand, I didn't make it very far simply due to how ugly the character creator forced me to be. character progression was surely there but nothing jumped out at me since I prefer 2-handed lance classes.

I feel spoiled by FFxiv, tbh. Homogenized jobs means I dont have to worry about builds, job stones means i dont have to worry about anything, really. And dungeons, while faceroll speed runs, are a lot better than the chaos I walked into during other MMOs instances.

You can transfer ownership. However, just take a break? I can't find it, but there is an interview with Yoshia where he clearly states the game is not intended to be something you log in to on a daily basis.

Just start playing pvp, its not perfect but is a really good time killer if you get involved into.

The one thing about ESO (since i played it for 2 years) is that, the progression is also really limited and the skill usage or equipment and sets also. Most of the equipment or sets are either trash tier or bis, same goes with the abilities and passives, which you have a limited space to use and cant use them all, even if they seems useful and fit you playstyle, you have to go with the better abilities.
It just seems rich and diverse on the side, but sadly enough its narrow and different when you get into this game.
Class and character customization has limited effeciency, there are certain bis ways to build character otherwise you are wasting your time and wont be able to progress any further. Even race what you choose matters, and in that case khajit was the bis race for the Stamina based characters when i was playing.

If something is not forced, players will find a way of the best and it will be expected to go that way by the community itself.

I loved the thief guild, questline of those and the gameplay of a thief in ESO, however at the end game it all was just a waste of the time, and barely anyone doing it due to no good enough rewards for end game players, since its all based on RNG and you could end up with 20k gold made in 1 day, where at the same time you could have get like 200k by simply just grinding gold from trash mobs, only newbies who doesnt know it are trying playing as a thief.

Diverse gameplay, character customization, playstyles, equipment sets, its all farce in that game, going with random stuff is a waste of time, will it be gold making, pve or pvp. Especially PVP, you cant go with the character build you want, or you will be ripped apart. xD

It really is the little things sometimes, still surprises when this isn't in other games.

Between FFXIV and FFXI I would say I get burn out much quicker on FFXI content at the moment due to the grinds being a lot longer then FFXIV and that there is no real new content. I would have to say that FFXIV is a lot better since I can take a few days off from content to play other things at the moment

I quit even trying for new gear. I don't see the point, as it will be obsolete if I did try in a few weeks anyway. If that's all this game is about, I'd rather gather and do other things than grinding tomes and raids. I do find other things fun, but I'm really tired of not "settling in" a set of gear like I did in XI. Nevermind the actual looks of it, which I'm not much of a fan of either. Just my 2 cents.
