This game wont be a big success, nore will it be a big failure. It will just stay how it is, I believe. It will obviously gain back some of the lost members by the time it gets 2.0, but thinking its ever going to hit millions is very optimistic at this moment.

There is just way too much competition.

By the time 2.0 hits, TERA/GW2/SWTOR and others will have already been released, patched, and be having updates/expansions.

FFXIV also suffers against other non related games, for example MW3 took players, BF3, etc. But I dont think there is any big games like that coming within the next year.

FFXIV will do well, and SE don't have the intention of closing it. So it wont ever fail. Hell even APB hasn't failed and that has a worse start than FFXIV (and is in a worse condition still now lol)

I play a lot of games, so picking one over another seems very stupid to me, I like lots of entertainment and don't plunge myself into 1 game like its my child or something. I will though favour others over others. Thus I will favor tera/gw2/swtor over FFXIV in its current state.

I may also not pay for subscription as I dont play, so I do not see point.

Azur has been away for a while, he has not seen the current XIV, which does not consist of leves being the day to day.

The only leves I've done since 1.19 are crafting leves.

In reference to this, I think that means 2.0 being a year or so away is a GOOD thing. All the hype from those games will have died down a bit and everyone will have some time to play them and figure out if they like them enough or not, giving XIV a bit more spotlight and hype for it's re-launch.

With good marketing and well planned E3 campaign, I don't think millions are out of the question.

I'm pretty positive that 2.0 will actually re-write the game (based on what I've seen and the fact that they've been developing alongside 1.0 this entire time).

it will once they get out of the let do every thing other mmo's are doing so we dont stand out from the rest phase . im pertty sure swtor will beat ffxiv till SE pushes out 2.0 then maybe they have a chance of pushing past SWTOR.

This game is being fundementally changed. They are adding and changing the game we have now and completely making a "new" one for us to be released in about a years time. I think they are doing great. It's going to take time but look how far they have gotten.

Anywho, you don't need to have as many subscribers as WoW to be considered successful, we got a ways to go before we get our next influx of new people.

This game will most likly succeed in terms of eventully making SE money and being up and runing for 8-10yrs. It is square and their main IP. So tons of capital to throw at it to fix it and final fantasy which they will not let fail.

Now it will most likely never break 1mill subs, so it comes down to what is a success? The "1 million+ subs or the game sucks mentality" or the "Long lasting game with a stable playerbase mentality"

If they release 2.0 with everything they said it will have, and they have enough content where people do not get board. And they successfully have content for hardcore and casuals. Then the game will easily succeed if not be one of the better mmos on the market. But as for being hugly popular, this is XIV the worst mmo ever developed. That mentality alone will stop it from ever reaching its full potential.

ToR is nothing really special in it if you take away the voice acting. Feels like a standard western mmo to me honestly. Those that like that style and like starwars will love ToR, it is put together fairly well. For me I dislike western style mmo design, why I am against alot of what they are adding to XIV, and I am not a starwars fan so ToR is another Meh mmo to me. I would rather play WoW or Rift honestly if I had to play a current western game.

ToR, GW2, Tera, Blade and Soul I feel have no chance of killing XIV, they are just too different. XIV has no chance of giving the experience of those game, but then again those game have no chance of giving the experience of XIV either.

In the end the only way SE will fail is for the devs to screw up again bad. They need to see what modern mmos have it and incorporate it into a original (not copy/paste mmo) FF type experience. Copying Mainstream or XI will mean 100% chance of the game failing.
