This game wont be a big success, nore will it be a big failure. It will just stay how it is, I believe. It will obviously gain back some of the lost members by the time it gets 2.0, but thinking its ever going to hit millions is very optimistic at this moment.

There is just way too much competition.

By the time 2.0 hits, TERA/GW2/SWTOR and others will have already been released, patched, and be having updates/expansions.

FFXIV also suffers against other non related games, for example MW3 took players, BF3, etc. But I dont think there is any big games like that coming within the next year.

FFXIV will do well, and SE don't have the intention of closing it. So it wont ever fail. Hell even APB hasn't failed and that has a worse start than FFXIV (and is in a worse condition still now lol)

I play a lot of games, so picking one over another seems very stupid to me, I like lots of entertainment and don't plunge myself into 1 game like its my child or something. I will though favour others over others. Thus I will favor tera/gw2/swtor over FFXIV in its current state.

I may also not pay for subscription as I dont play, so I do not see point.

In reference to this, I think that means 2.0 being a year or so away is a GOOD thing. All the hype from those games will have died down a bit and everyone will have some time to play them and figure out if they like them enough or not, giving XIV a bit more spotlight and hype for it's re-launch.

With good marketing and well planned E3 campaign, I don't think millions are out of the question.
