I was one of those new players doing Brayflox without a soulstone equipped. At that point in the game, I was still on the free trial, and didn't want to start up a new story quest when I was probably going to have to wait a few weeks before I could get the full game installed and downloaded.

How much difference does it actually make for a DPS player at that point?

Also as a note, before SB it could potentially be better for some DPS to not take the soulstone into Brayflox, since the loss of your one new skill was made up for by the extra cross class skills you could use if you had them. If that was enough to account for the lost stats, I have no idea, but it was at least something for Brayflox specifically.

Oh, but my friend (the better DPS) and I were the toxic assholes for trying and failing to help the idiot Archer understand the need for Soulstones. Good grief.

You can't do the following in MMOs:

-argue with stupid

Got fractal continuum HM for my expert this morning. Cast protect and away we go, or not... Ok! I'll just look at the scenery for a bit! We ht the first pull and I can already tell this is gonna be a LONG run. Not because of the dps, but because everyone but the tank is tanking, and he has eaten every AoE the first pack of trash can do. This continues all the way to the first boss, where the tank continues to not dodge. First set of linear Bit attacks, he manages to eat 3 of them, then blow up the gravity ball. Heal him through that. Next set of lines comes out... he eats ALL of them. Didn't even budge. After that, he is so low that I don't even have time to react before he dies. Raise him and we beat the boss.

Next trash all the way to the boss is more of the same. 2nd Boss! More no dodging, but this time, he drops the green puddle under where he is standing, and doesn't move out of it. 8 stacks of vulnerability + Tank buster = SPLAT! Seriously considering leaving him on the ground to think about what he's done, plus the sam isn't doing half bad tanking the boss. Feel guilty and raise him anyways. After we beat the boss, he says "Lol I forgot how this dungeon goes, I always get Hell's Lid". WHAT?!?! They've been teaching you to dodge since you joined the game! Only reason he didn't die on the last boss was because there wasn't anything too big that he had to dodge, even though he ate all of the spinning AoE moves. I'm not terrible in dungeons, but there was no saving him. There was no want to live...

Sigmascape V1. All of our DPS was dead. We had 1 tank left. I activated my lb3 as I was WHM, but I was instantly KIDNAPPED by a damn ghost. While I was in the passenger car, the other healer used their lb3. Despite the fact that we succeeded, I was still quite salty that my lb3 got interrupted by a rude ass ghost.

Also as a note, before SB it could potentially be better for some DPS to not take the soulstone into Brayflox, since the loss of your one new skill was made up for by the extra cross class skills you could use if you had them.

I used to do it on BLM after getting a bunch of healers letting people die in a row, since you could cross class Cure as THM :P Granted, when I did it I was still below lvl 35 so no big harm done haha.

THM was actually notorious for this - it was a DPS loss to equip your soulstone before you got flare - B4B made sure of that.

Landed in the Aery on my AST main, with a newbie bud tank. They couldn't hold hate at all, even though they were only pulling one group (and sometimes one mob) at a time. Late CDs, no flash, nothing. They apologised for their bad tanking. I said, 'don't worry, go ahead and learn, I'll heal anything ', to which they replied, 'oh I'm not learning, I'm just tired'.

'Well then, when you're so "tired" you can't even keep hate on a single target, all you're really doing is inconveniencing everyone and wasting their time, aren't you?' I thought to myself, but decided not to say it

I don't mind at all healing for a bud tank who could be on their first higher level dungeon and getting to grips with their new abilities, but purposely going into a dungeon when you're "tired" enough to be as terrible as that is just taking the absolute pee. They literally must've been physically asleep for half of the run; they were that bad.

Went into Dusk Vigil on my low-level WHM since it's next to level up for me (I got RDM to lvl 70 last week, yay!). I went in with a friend on RDM and we got a SAM and a DRK for the other two. I was noticing after a while that DRK wasn't using Rampart, or.. any cool down? Maybe he used one but I for sure never saw a Rampart. I don't mind, because stuff like this makes you a better healer and since I'm new to WHM, it's a fun challenge. Unfortunately, tank did die on one trash pack but I quickly got him back up and no one else ate snow. Things went well, slow but well, until the second boss. I'm not sure if it was a combination of bad tanking and bad performance from the SAM but there were an AWFUL LOT of enemies when I'm usually used to seeing only a handful. No wonder then that tank and I wiped, as did SAM but my RDM friend held on and managed to actually finish it.


I returned to the start point just as the tank did. He starts running away and I'm somewhat focused on him but also messaging my friend to ask what happened. Then I noticed the tank had left the dungeon. Okay... whatever. I start running in the direction he did, not really noticing and at the last moment realized "WAIT! This isn't the shortcut! This is the entrance!" I think he absolutely accidentally left the dungeon lol We had a chuckle over it.

SAM impatiently asked me to refill the tank place and I said I would. My friend said he'd leave and re-join as tank, so he did. SAM then said that he had a friend who could come as DPS and how do they do that? I was explaining how when we got another RDM and within about 10 seconds, SAM had initiated a Vote Dismiss on the basis of AFK. Uh, no. Sorry dude. Give the person a chance to even get to us. Sorry that your friend couldn't join us but that's no reason to vote dismiss someone like that.

After that, SAM was pissy. He repeatedly would run ahead and pull, or he'd disappear to open EVERY SINGLE CHEST EVERYWHERE. On the last boss, he ran ahead and pulled VERY obviously (we were standing at the gate waiting for RDM to catch up) and then refused to hide behind rocks. So guess who didn't get healed?

I came out with no comms but whatever. It was an entertaining run

So uh, I ran Fractal HM for my expert and... well...

Let's just start by saying I had the second highest HP as WHM (my team was some sort of tank, MNK, and BLM) by a fairly large margin and I don't have any VIT melded. Its not really an indicator of anything other than low ilvl on the part of the MNK (my ~38k to his ~32k) and BLM (BLM didn't even have 30k hp), but it kind of helps cement what I experienced I suppose.

On patch day, when I first ran this dungeon, my team and I beat the second boss after he linked with Sephirot and then Ravana (I didn't see Sophia). Since then I hadn't seen him link with more than 2 of the triad, until last night when I saw him link with FOUR (4) of them. I thought he would stop using that mechanic after he linked with all of the triad. Nope. They reset and he starts over. The DPS was incredibly low and the tank couldn't take hits at all (they almost died like 3 times on the first boss some how).

The BLM also liked to die during bosses...

So on top of longer fights (and smaller pulls), and a tank who needed to be babied, I had a BLM who would hit the floor after 5 minutes into a boss fight. After I noticed this pattern aftrr the second boss I babied both the tank and BLM during the final boss (which took forever) all while trying to dish out as much DPS as possibly. There were a few scares since no one seemed to be able to take a hit and there's quite a bit of aoe damage that goes out during that fight.

At least they took notice and I walked away with three comms.
