Hmm. Contemplating on making an Alt there to see the horror 1st hand.
Well, next week on Balmung will be interesting.
Part of me wonders, though, exactly how many people are gonna return to Balmung? Almost want to think it’s perhaps mostly hype over the euphoria of “yay Balmung is open”. I’m a former resident there, and the pile of gil + private mansion I’ve acquired recently make the idea of having to manage gil to get under the cap allowed for transfer far too much of a hassle to deal with. Even if I had all that stuff in order right now, I’m VERY certain all the houses would be bought up by the time a transfer would complete.
As far as Shirogane, Mist and Lavender are concerned, I highly expect every single placard to have at the least 3 people logging in at. Goblet (I personally love the place so a little upset it's disliked by most) will probably just end up getting rushed after all other plots are taken.

I'm probably giving them too much credit for sneakiness, but I wonder if that's the whole point - make people pick. They know that Balmung transfers are going to be a nightmare, and they know housing is going to be a nightmare, so now people have to decide - stay and have a chance at a house on your lower-pop server, or transfer in before it's relocked but know you won't get a house? They're probably hoping that instead of 100% nightmare on both sides, it'll just be 75% nightmare, because most people can't do both.Well, next week on Balmung will be interesting.

Whatever the case, good luck to people - and I'm glad I'm not on Aether.

People keep talking about Balmung, but IIRC didn't the latest unofficial census show that some other server like Gilga or Levi had topped it in terms of population? Yeah, some of that might change after its opened up, but I'm curious to see if anyone's making plans to transfer/create a new character on any of the other equally-as-congested-if-not-more-so servers.

Weren't those other servers largely open to transfers all this time? Leviathan is among the top 5 transfer-receivers in one of the more recent LuckyBancho surveys, much like Cactuar. Gilgamesh got the most in the last survey. Mateus and Omega also got a bunch (likely due to being unofficial RP realms. RIP them?).
I dunno.

Idk about transfers, but Levi's been closed to new character creation for a while now (my home server, occasionally get the urge to make alts I'll never play then delete a few days later).Weren't those other servers largely open to transfers all this time? The server rush back to Balmung probably won't be as bad as people are expecting, unless all of the players decide to transfer back to it.
While the congested world restrictions will be lifted, the standard character creation restriction is still in place for worlds that have a spike in activity. For example, Tonberry isn't a congested world, but currently has a restriction on character creation.
A week at most. It's still very highly populated and I have little doubt that a lot of people who left will rush back to the server.
Then we'll see a repeat of Aether as a whole crashing due to Balmung being so dangerously bloated again.
