    Love Red Mages

I just started leveling one, and after maining a BLM, I'm having the time of my life. The job is so interactive. And when played right, it's absolutely devastating. Half my spells are instant-cast. And keeping an eye on my balance gauge while doing damage is a fun dynamic for me.

Keeping both white mana and black mana balanced, and then knowing when to charge in and melee - and then using Displacement to flip back to range - keeps me alert and on my toes. And also causes me to nerdgasm sometimes. Add to that, the job plays so fast.

That's quite different than BLM, where at 50, the job is basically a turret. I stand in one place and nuke. The only spell I have at 50 that I can use on the run is Scathe, or when Thunder procs. (Or when I use Swiftcast.) Don't get me wrong, I love BLM. But after playing RDM, I honestly don't think I'll ever go back to BLM again. :-)

Does the job remain this fun at 70?

The job sadly doesn't really evolve much between 50 and 70. You'll get a few upgrades, such as Impact, Verflare, and Verholy. But that's mostly it.

There will also be a few tricks to pull out an a little extra damage in the form of Manification and Embolden for raid utility.

I can honestly understand why. It's a tad OP as it is. And I'm not a raider so the latter point won't really affect me.

Red mage has high average DPS, but a low max DPS ceiling. Meaning that a bad RDM is probably going to look like a god compared to a bad BLM, still look decent when compared to a decent BLM, but look very underwhelming when compared to a good BLM. Don't even get me started on great BLM VS great RDM.... but rdm brings recover party support that is unparralled [kinda, smn really isnt that far behind rdm in recovery support.]

It's a great job for sure.

It definitely feels that way at first. You'll find as you progress and other jobs get their higher level skills (RDM start with "high" potency stuff because the job is essentially 50+) and become more adept at their jobs that you're not as strong relatively as you feel now. I saw it put well in another thread where RDM starts off well, but scales badly after 70. A RDM's group utility comes in the form of essentially "Cure 0.78" and Verraise, with a very limited help in Embolden. While a RDM can indeed pull off a nice save in a party (I've raised our healer in 4 man content a handful of times when stuff happens), its potency output doesn't increase as dramatically as other jobs as levels go up.

Now, that's not to say that it won't still be an enjoyable job, or that you won't enjoy the "easy to recover" aspect of a fairly simple play style. I still main it for a number of reasons. Just also realize that while you may feel like a demi-primal amongst (wo)men to start, that power scale will tip the other direction in time. You won't by any means be useless, but it might be a bit of a reality check at some point.

the playstyle didnt change even at lvl 70, that could be a good or bad thing for some people.

its good for me though because i have slow reflex so doing rotation like double weaving or chance proc will take me a second before i react. that combine with movement, positioning if you are melee and buff timer, i have hard time with every melee class in this game so i end up as blm.

change to rdm and so far i like it, not really care being top dps since iam not into endgame stuff anyway

if there is one thing i nitpick about rdm is that i dont like how it wield it sword, i dont mind the fencing but the way it hold just point straight forward like that bugger me to no end =P

That's how rapiers and other thrusting swords are usually held in HEMA.

IMO it gets more fun at 70. Verflare/Verholy both feel immensely satisfying as finishers and create an extra twist to how you manage your mana gauge.

The job changes ever so slightly from lvl 50 to lvl 70 so it's great that you are finding it fun now. You won't really find raiders looking for rdm outside progression but you already said ur not a raider so rdm is perfect for just casual play, but keep that in mind if you ever decide to do raiding content.

The job doesn't change too much, but your utility can go through the roof it later fights - especially DualCast Verraise. If you get to any mechanics where the possibilty of multiple people dying and you are alive, the healers will thank you. I dunno, I know the job doesn't change much but hey, I just like playing the class.
