To be fair overly bubbly can get annoying quickly, though that doesn't excuse that behavior.

Reminds me of a WoD run where I wanted to just eat the penalty, everything was "YAY GREAT JOB OWO" and amazing, awesome, incredible... but in reality it was a very mediocre run. Saying that everything is great or super just diminishes those adjectives into meaningless nothing. What happens when something actually is awesome? They already said the tank using a cd was "awesome" so that's a low bar...

    Sorry got off track!

I do think there's a solid difference between being a bit annoyed at "overly bubbly" and calling people cancer.

I think "though that doesn't excuse that behavior." had that covered. Just giving an example of where this 'bitterness' can come from. The cancer people were definitely wrong but poking at bears isn't smart either, even when you add a smiley at the end.

I completely agree. The thing is we went most of the way through with nothing more than the usual hi/hey/hello at the start of the dungeon. Other than a conversation I had in alliance chat with someone from group A (which also wasn't particularly bubbly) the first thing said in our party chat was me complimenting their healing.

It was also a legitimate accomplishment - the MT died to the meteor on the Behemoth fight, A's tank wasn't doing anything and our tank was tanking the Iron Giant already so I tanked the Behemoth on RDM and our healers kept me alive through that and our tank up from the giant. I don't think that diminished the meaningfulness of my compliment - I've had similar situations happen there where healers who I know are good haven't been able to keep me up because a RDM just isn't meant to take Behemoth auto attacks. I think it was legitimately good healing on their parts (especially considering how shakey they had been up to that point) and I felt like they deserved a thank you for saving my life/the group from a wipe.

I totally get that you weren't defending their behavior but I more just wanted to make it clear that I am not an owo-kawaii-desu-ne kind of person, I saw good play from what I assumed were struggling newbie healers and wanted to encourage them or maybe even get them some comms for their work.

Also the 'poking at bears' thing... I just straight up feel that you're wrong here. If someone is being a jerk I feel like they should be told that they're being a jerk. Apparently the vast majority of my party agreed with me. If I had known they were so hostile I never would have complimented them in the first place but, again, how am I to know people are awful until they show me?

I'm sorry, even if you're just trying to play devil's advocate I just flat out disagree with you here at least in respect to this specific situation.

I do appreciate the clarification, I am sorry to imply you were a owo-kawaii-desu-ne sort... just having a discussion really~

    No worries, no harm done

Edit: I didn't include all that in the original post because I thought it was too wordy but I realize the original lack of context is on me. My apologies.

"Hey hey HEY LOOK *PING!PING!* GOTTA RAISE THIS GUY WHO MESSED UP AND DIED." Jokey ones, while intending to lighten the mood, are at the expense of the raisee.

Asshole ones are in a different category entirely. The worst I've seen was a particularly filthy one that made you not even want to hit "yes" to accept the raise itself. It was straight ERP in macro form.

*nods* That's why I don't tie a funny macro to my Raise. The "<my name> riffles through target's pocket for loose gil to cover target's funeral expenses" macro is meant to be used only with friends who know I'm roleplaying one of my characters who happens to be a dyed in wool Ul'dah native.

One of my favories is one from Tridus, it's SCH specific though.

I'm gonna throw my hat into the raise macro discussion. I'm actually quite unfunny most of the time so I go the boring route and steal quotes from games I like. Like one time I use:

"I kind of liked it your way
How you shyly placed your eyes on me
    Did you ever know,
That I had mine on you... <t>" Eyes on Me (FFVIII)

    And I also used:

"To my side my noble Einherjar! <t>" Valkyrie Profile

At the moment I don't use one because I kind of hate macros.
