You make a good point, but what happens when no one wants to farm the content? I've seen this argument play out many times in the past and the fact is that content is born, it lives, and eventually it becomes forgotten. That is the problem we are now dealing with when it comes to crafted goods using the older materials. Also, the entire point of having a currency system is to provide a means of trade, as people earning gil are still spending time to earn that gil. It's a measure of the effort they put into the game just as much as tomestones are.

The main reason the two currencies are segregated is because they need a way to keep people from clearing the end game too fast. My own feeling is if they are willing to let people buy carbontwine to upgrade leveling gear at this point there's not much reason to not allow crafters to buy up parts needed for old primal glamour and other items. If implemented right it could actually help fund and bring in more crafters as well. Imagine how nice it would be if crafters could go earn some kind of currency while leveling and spend it on old items to sell. Maybe early on it's not the primal items, but they could put other things in that are less valuable early on.
