If you were a 'true fan' you wouldn't be bothered by the lack of a dumb reference to the suplex thing since simply having the Phantom Train show up in the first place is what most people who enjoyed FF6 wanted to see. It's just a case of people being ungrateful. So the people who can enjoy a little bit of comedy thrown into a more serious moment aren't true fans of FF6? Is that what I'm supposed to understand from this post? Because a lot of stories inject a little bit of humor into more serious parts of their story just to ease up on the tension a little bit before continuing to pile more on.
I fail to see how I'm not a "true fan" of FFVI because I can appreciate a good joke, intentional or otherwise.
