I’m now at level 60 and I don’t know what a stack marker is, because the game doesn’t explain it and I’m not reading guides unless I’m actually having trouble getting through content. And I am getting through most things. I’ll do my best to work out what to do and pay attention to what others are doing, but it’s not always clear.

So, a stack marker means you all group up? What am I looking for?

Okay, time to saltily vent. I qued for several dungeons for Khloe, got Sohm al hard. No biggie, fun, fast dungeon. Tank is new, other dps (blm and bard) are not. Everything goes alright, blm keeps on urging tank to pull "more", no problem. At the first boss I explain about exploding proximity attacks while the tank already is engaging, but nothing major. Blm dies for not moving away from the exploding bulbs. NP, raise him, protect, we continue. From the second boss is where it goes to hell.

Mind you, when the blm died again, it was not because he got aggro or tank turned it towards him. The second boss there has random attacks without telegraphs, so it turns to somebody, do an attack, no indication. And the blm just stood there when the dragon was continuously spitting fire on him - he still had time to move away with less health, but he would survive. He just stood there, died, and blamed tank for it.

Then we continued in silence, until up the last pack of mobs where suddenly - black screen. You had been dismissed from duty. The blm and bard were together and I just got kicked for the first time during my ffxiv experience. Which fine, I'm salty because they kicked me for not agreeing and defending the tank, but man, poor tank for having to put up with that. Wonder if they kicked him too :/ He was doing good, and even though he didn't wait for explanation, he read it during the fight and did what he was told, so there was really, really no issue with his performance "I want to play my class" from blm just didn't make any sense because there was nothing stopping him from it, except of mechanics he had to do by himself. (also sorry for the amazing typos there lol. Quickly typing mid fight is not my strong side xD)

    End of selfish rant.

Not really a bad tale, but the one thing I realize the more I do duty finder is that the game really punishes you for being new over being experienced.

Like I tend to practice whatever the hard normal content is as healer because healers generally need to be the ones who dodge every single mechanic the most. So I/m doing O7N over, because its the hardest fight out the three (kefka on normal is a joke, and also explains my point) and I notice that the diff between a wipe and not is just how many new people there are, because all of the mechanics are obscured on first try. Kefka literally is this, he's utterly trivial once you understand his tells.

It just gets kind of old. You only really have savage, in which you HAVE to spoil the mechanics just to play it, unless you play day 1. You need to watch a video and or read a wakthrough because the burden of not knowing the tells is too much for a group. Like the difficulty in general is frontloaded into the first time you do anything, because there is no randomness. So the newbies tend to be the ones who struggle the most, and really only if they don't watch a video.

Like a perfect example is 05N, where all of a sudden you need to run into a ghost to avoid the toxic smoke. But players were dodging ghosts before, and on your first try virtually every newbie dies because they don't know ghosts pull you into cars. Its just a cheap death due to obscured information, and it vanishes completely once you know about it.

IDK, it just gets old in DF. I don't really have issues with any players in it, because that's mostly all the difficulty. People go in blind, and get chewed up by mechanics. I don't really see bad dps, or mean players (think i had one example in the past six months that annoyed me) but i just see new people who wipe a lot because of that. Even a friend who is generally really skilled at her job can suffer from this the first time.

Just a little rant. I entered Rabanastre for the first time yesterday on my AST, and at that point I wasn’t sure what was considered to be a “good” group after all the horror stories I’ve read here. I pointed out it was my first time, however I did look at a YT video to have an idea of what mechanics were here. Of course, I did forget a few times and died, but not nearly as much as some others. At one point later, we were at the 2nd boss, and I accidentally died right after using Ascend on someone. To which my co-healer continued spamming their DPS skills. The tank in our party asked why they didn’t res me and the response was “Because the group is sh-t.” Now, I can understand the frustration of an experienced player who’s having to deal with (what I now realise was a bad group) a group that’s not really getting places fast. But I just found it a little rude.

The co-healer was a mentor also, and made me think about the type of people who become mentors. The person had stayed quiet the whole time, not giving a word of advice or anything, and the first time speaking had said something of a rather salty nature.

Anyway, the group voted abandon and I joined another a few minutes later. That raid group was much smoother, and I got my clear. ^.^

Today I did Dzemael Darkhold for the first time with my PLD. And I was a bit anxious knowing that you had to position the first boss and adds near the crystals, and other crystals and mobs doing a lot of AOE.

At first I thought and told my team I did not good at some point but they kept reassuring me, saying I was doing a good job. One of them even had all 3 tanks at lvl 70.

After the final boss they congratulated me and I got all comms.

I'm always scared of doing bad as a Tank but now I want to keep playing tank. That group was awesome

You stand on the one player with the orange flashing arrows and share damage aiming for the marked player.

I think the issue with that is you don't see them until Final Steps of Faith, which is level 60, but then the mechanic's in every other instance after that.

Not DF for PF. Joined a Byakko farm party and we were getting everything all set up when one of the tanks asked the question " do you wanna mt?". The other tank took great offence from this and went on a tirade about how OT, MT, main healer and cohealer were all useless terms as "everyone shares the same amount of responsibility equally".

He didn't grab aggro after the first stack and caused a wipe by trying to group up with the aoe marker and quit immediately.

    .
Content is out less than a week and already people who are 'new' to the fight are being considered an issue?Seriously?

No, i don't mean players are being punished by other players. It's more that the game itself punishes people a bit too much for being new. Like the tendency to remove visible aoe markers. So the newbies increasingly stay on the floor a lot. Mostly that's the only issue I see in DF; people are fine otherwise.
