The real issue is classes with shared gear.
If you have PLD, WAR, and DRK for example, odds are they're all using the exact same gear set.
If you want a separate glam for PLD, WAR, and DRK, it needs to be done in town every time.
Because all the plates do is overwrite the glamour on specific gear items. It doesn't allow you to have separate glams for those three classes without going back to town and changing the plate every single time.
This is dumb, and basically just a fancier version of what we had before, only somehow more inconvenient despite using less overall prisms.
This system is not an upgrade. It's a sidegrade. Because while it does allow you to swap glamours quicker, it's still a deeply flawed system that's not even a day old and already needs an overhaul.

At least let us change it wherever we are. I see no reason to prevent us from casting them outside of major cities when we've been able to reapply glamour to new items on the spot in dungeons and raids since glamour was introduced.

Basically the glamour plates aren't in any way assigned to a gear set. When you apply them, it glamours all of your items in accordance with the plate. This means that if you put a poncho in your plate and apply it to your Chromite Armor of Fending, it'll have functioned as if you used the regular glamour system to do it, and you can unequip and re-equip it with the same glamour in tact, or modify the glamour plate with the glamour in tact.

This means you have to apply it each time you change equipment. It basically means you put it in this system to glamour it for free for life.

So you need a plate for every job and currently have 10 / 26 spaces allowed...for 1 plate per job AND it gets destroyed when stuck in the dresser. Cool. Thanks but no thanks I guess

There is one perk to this system, which is making things a little easier when you upgrade your gear. Changed equipment? Just reapply your plate to get your glamour back (with no crystal cost even).

Ironically it means that you don't have to worry about retainers using this system, since you can just equip what you want them to equip, and then apply your desired glamour for your retainer, and then equip your retainer with the newly glamoured equipment.

Hopefully they'll expand the system to squadrons soon, though.

It is certainly more convenient and cost-effective in the long run as a replacement for glamour prisms, but I'd say it's a safe bet that it's not what anyone was expecting, nor what they wanted.
So we'll just keep offering up our complaints, and hope that they improve the system to make it more like what we were hoping for sooner rather than later. More plates, tying it more smoothly into Gear Sets... these are things that the devs have said they plan to do with the system, and while I cannot fathom why they were unable to make it so on-implementation, I can only hope that we're not waiting terribly long for them to do so.

This is true. So if you get new gear you don't have to go buy prisms any more and go through that hassle of cast glamour, find glam item, equip glamour using your prism you just bought/crafted. So will make it quicker as you say to reglamour your gear.
Well I think I understand it. Will give it a shot when I can log in and see if I can get to grips with It. Will trial it with some low level stuff I don't mind destroying first though before using any of my prized possessions

I'm just chalking it up to a sort of beta test, see how the system handles the load or whatever. Once they've seen what it can handle, they'll have a better idea of how much they can implement.

    It's a hope, anyway.

Pros and cons. Alas, so far, the pros aren't very abundant.

A beta test that eats your items. Super.

Had they bothered to solicit player feedback on this system, this is something they could have seen coming a mile away.

Glamour Plates are fine. We just need increased storage, and for dyes not to go away in the armoire.
