No matter how you slice it. This is a terrible limitation.
This person said it best. You can't put in items you're afraid of losing and use them on jobs that are the same type. If you want to glam your WHM and AST differently then you can't put in any gear that will be heard to obtain again. You can only multi glam jobs with cheap great you're not afraid of losing. That really sucks and you can't work around it using the old system. This will really limit people who want multiple jobs to look different.

I mean WoW handles your bank, guild banks, inventories, the entire Wardrobe (which carries over a players entire account cross-servers) the toys and mount lists (again, cross-server) and probably some other things im forgetting without any issues....but they put a 200 item cap because they are concerned about server impact? I'll be honest, that sort of makes me wonder as to the condition/state of the FFXIV servers then, though tbh Im not any sort of network guru or anything like that.
The difference is Blizzard took the time to design their system properly. Their transmog collection system was built to be part of an expansion, which means their team took their time over the course of expansion development to get it right. FFXIV's team took a few months between patches to both decide this was a thing they could do and then quickly design a way to do it. The whole thing reeks of being a slapdash solution thrown together without any real thought or proper design work. This ridiculous change in the patch notes as compared with the words that came out of Yoshi P's mouth ONE WEEK AGO is further evidence of this. SE didn't really know what it was doing with this system and now we all get to suffer the consequences of that.

Design is hard. It takes time to do properly and well.

If the two systems work together it'll be alright, and I think this system COULD take over for the current system. but together? It has the potential to be a hot mess.

The idea was to add 200 inventory slots that are dedicated for glamour gear, freeing up space and making the glamour system better. If I can't use gear in the dresser with the old glamour system while there aren't enough plates to cover all the jobs, thats not going to help my inventory. It means I'd need one version of the gear in the dresser to use in plates, and one in my inventory to do old style item glamours to make up for the fact I don't have enough plates to cover all my classes.

If the systems are totally separate I might as well ignore the dresser until it can handle a plate for every class.

This is the crux of the entire matter. There's shouldn't be a question on whether or not to be able to store stuff. Currently there is.

I fail to see the point of reinventing the wheel. Do they just not want to copy something from WoW? MMO's have ripped each other off for years when one has a good idea. What's the deal with this asinine glamour system that just over-complicates something that should be simple?

Ah yes, The most USEFUL and WIDELY PRAISED feature in WoW that EVERYONE USES.

Bolded for unfiltered pure sarcasm. Most people forget Void Storage even exists.

I hope noone uses this system so we get a not-beta implementation of it next patch like with Perform. As is it's a niche solution that doesn't solve half of the problems its intended to.

The sad part is it's a crappy system that may just cause more issues if they ever decide to make a proper system.

Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, Star Wars the Old Republic and even Lord of the Rings Online are amazing examples of an outfit system that works without punishing the player.

I'm really afraid that SE rushed this outfit system and now we will permanently be stuck with it.

No they have to reinvent it, in the most strange way, only to have people rightfully complain that its bad..which prompts the answer that we are just greedy players that cant get enough and should be happy because somehow it took a huge amount of work. Then the system will just stay in place even though a lot of people dislike it and even though alot of people show that it will be bad for the future..and writing down examples on how to do it better which should give them ideas...and then months/years later they see that its truly just a bad system and either still stick with it (Band-aids everywhere) or decide to finally change it..(if its for better or worse depends) I mean that exactly how housing is right now x)..

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

However you could do this example.

Glamour your magic dps gear with what you want the red mage gear to be, the mogstation stuff, then use the glamour plates to glamour your black mage and summoner jobs.

You can't do it again for another job that shares the same armor, however it's more freedom than what was afforded to you before.

I was really looking forward to being able to free up some space with this system but if it permanently destroys items that are put in it combined with the system's limitations? No thanks. I'm a bit confused why this doesn't work like the armoire since that technically destroys items that are placed in it as well, but you can still retrieve them later.
