The thing that bugs me most?
It isnt people that own multiple houses. It isnt even people who flip plots for gil - both people put in a ton of patience to acquire plots.
It is the autodemolition timer. It is forty five days long... Which means someone had to have stopped using their house so long that they wasted over a month's subscription. The best part? IT GETS SHUT OFF! Look, i get theres real life catastrophes out there in the world, but if people are in those situations, the last thing they'll be thinking about while burying their kid or simply finding out the best bet to clean their house is a bulldozer... Is "Oh, hows my FFXIV account doing?"
People want to complain about empty and unused houses, and we all sit here begging for changes that wont do squat. If they are actually unused, let the autodemolition timer actually work. If we turn it off for every catastrophe in the world, i hope no one ever introduces SE to US news - theres a new catastrophe almost every week.

You cannot blame people with multiple homes but how the housing itself was implemented and no rules applied at the time.
Do not deflect the issue at hand unto those with multiple homes but push for proper changes (adding more wards is not a good step forward)

It's not about personal taste or maximizing garden patches. But to use your house somehow, not only to take away the opportunity from who was interested while you're going to do nothing there. Just wasting a plot with a empty house without any purpose, and yeah, they shouldn't have them if they're not going to use it somehow, imo people should lose even their names if they're not playing the game anymore like some MMOs avaliable, i can't use a name i was wishing for because someone played the beta years ago until Lv9 and never came back, that's not fair for who's actually playing and wish a inactive name.
And i hope about this new rule for better days, i don't care if i don't have any plot since people who got make some use of it, and i hope about more several rules if this one doesn't work.
Double the NPC vendors in-doors! Allagan nodes and Snake people NPC vendors! Removal of the (imo) silly one-bathtub-per-house restriction! Sounds great! XD
...now let's just hope the new bathtub isn't one-per-house.

Updated with patch notes info. As per usual, let me know if I missed something.New pic with a bunch of furniture appears to have some wall hung kitchen utensils, a new cabinet, wall storage with doors, some new food and a much better quality showing of that parition with ceiling drop. Sadly the new fixtures stuff does not apply to blank partitions.
Best to avoid rare/cash shop wallpapers for those.
I can't wait to see what people do with the tubs now!

Falling, the auto demolition is necessary with all persistent housing systems in any game. It creates a limited number of houses/wards for the whole population if someones not subscribing or playing, their house should be auto demoed after a fair amount of time to allow someone else to acquire it use it who will hopefully actively use it. If you want to a housing system that dosen't require auto demolition you need instanced housing not persistent housing. Forty five days is plenty of time to allow for someone to keep their housing plot/plots from auto demoing if they care about them. If someones not playing or knows they wont be able to play for more that 45 days they need to prepare for that scenario the world (Servers) keeps spinning in said absence.

That a white partition with the center cutout?! I need this in my life.
A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

You need to re-read what Falling said. Falling is mad that the timer keeps getting turned off. Falling's point being if someone is burying a kid, then they really don't care what's going on in some game is correct, but it also is why the timer gets paused for major catastrophes. When you lost everything else you have in the world, it's super nice to know that the game you've been paying money to and playing forever will pause the timer they have that would normally destroy all your stuff. I know many people who are still trying to get roofs fixed on their houses, or just recently had their house torn down (and will have to rebuild it completely), or a million other things after Harvey. I honestly don't know if any of them play ffxiv, but I imagine that if they do, then they have appreciated the paused timer.
I mean, let's be real here. This conflict between players about housing and who owns what is totally, completely, utterly pointless because it ignores the fact that housing in Final Fantasy XIV is legendarily bad in its design. There's no point at getting mad at people who own multiple houses; they're the symptom of a horrendous housing system, not the cause. I will never understand how anyone at Square Enix approved such a poorly designed, badly-implemented housing system that benefits an incredibly small portion of the active player-base.
If Square Enix can't open enough wards to accommodate the majority of their active players, they should make housing instanced. Especially since the neighbourhoods are mostly empty anyway.
If Square Enix can't or won't make housing instanced in light of this, then I'd honestly prefer that they just remove housing entirely. There's no point to a gameplay feature that 90% of the playerbase can't access.
And just because I know someone's going to bring up the asinine argument, Savage raiding is not "a gameplay feature that 90% of the playerbase can't access". They're not the same thing.
