Read back to the producer letters/notes - should mention about that particular situation. Nothing to cite - but i could swear it was there.
To be fair, this new system is obviously incomplete. I'll give SE some time to polish it up. Going forward, the end result should be a streamline of the source (armoire, dresser & calamity salvager), method (current existing glamour and new dresser), no access limitation, more glamour plates and item doesn't get destroy upon saving into the glamour database (log, dresser, what have you). For now I can live with the limitations given... except for the destruction of items as they are put into the glamour dresser. That's just downright silly and unnecessary. It's true that you don't need the glamour dresser, and you can still continue to use glamour the normal way with no risk of losing your item. The problem is the fact that a new system was created (development resources spent) to facilitate the creation of glamour outfits, which glamour enthusiasts will likely avoid. The feature fails to meet the needs of it's intended consumer and unless corrected, will have been a waste of development cost.
"Glamour plates can only be applied while in large settlements such as Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, Ul'dah, Ishgard, and Kugane, the Gold Saucer, residential districts, inns, or the Ivory Chapel." - 4.2 Patch Notes.
For some reason I was under the impression of creating/editing the glamour plates was via dresser but "equipping" it can be done anywhere. Patch notes seems to state otherwise though.

I feel like the reason to why it's so difficult to make a glamour log/system work in this game (not saying it's impossible) it's because of how our characters work. If this game was like the usual MMO in which you pick one character per class, I'm sure this glamour log would already be a thing. But everything gets a little more complicated when you're talking about the same character having access to all classes at once, and sometimes (or most of the time) using the same gear on multiple classes.
Let's use WoW as an example. The transmog system works wonders, but if you could be a Mage and a Warlock on the same character, it would be very complicated to make the shared robes look completely different based on the class you're using at said moment.
I do want the glamour log to be a thing for inventory freedom purposes, but as far as glamour log goes, we would still have the "3 tanks looking exactly the same" issue.
I think glamour log should be separated into two module, "saving" and "applying" of appearance. The first part has already been referred to the existing crafting log by different players multiple times. As for the "3 tanks looking exactly the same" concern you brought up, that's the applying of appearance I mentioned, which is pretty much what the glamour plate is doing; to have a separated (from item) gear set that simply governs the look of the player. So theoretically speaking, there are existing assets which can tackle both the "saving" and "applying" of appearance in the game. So hopefully we can get a proper glamour log in the future.I feel like the reason to why it's so difficult to make a glamour log/system work in this game (not saying it's impossible) it's because of how our characters work. In before Sir K comes intercepting again, no, I'm not a game developer working on FFXIV, these are purely speculations based on my observations.
going to find out one way or the other for sure."Glamour plates can only be applied while in large settlements such as Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, Ul'dah, Ishgard, and Kugane, the Gold Saucer, residential districts, inns, or the Ivory Chapel." - 4.2 Patch Notes.

Honestly I'd be way less alarmed and much happier if at the very least they told us that this is temporary, that they're planning to program in a way to recover the gear in your dresser and that they couldn't ship it in with this update. I'd be fine with that and I'd wait for the patch.
But they didn't, really. They presented the feature as final, not as a work in progress.
"Irreversible". They said it themselves. This sounds pretty much definitive to me.* Please be warned that gear, once transformed into a glamour, can no longer be used as an item. This is an irreversible process. Transformed gear no longer exists as an item.
Not sure if you even read the entire post. I'm saying I can temporary live with the other restrictions (as it's pretty much beta testing at the moment) except the part where the items are destroyed.Honestly I'd be way less alarmed and much happier if at the very least they told us that this is temporary, that they're planning to program in a way to recover the gear in your dresser and that they couldn't ship it in with this update. No, instead, I was agreeing with you, sorry if it came out sounded antagonizing. I wanted to emphasize that if they had at least said that the feature would be coming (no ETA, no details, no nothing) it would STILL have been better than this.
Sorry I'm just bitter about this whole mess. I'm steadily losing interest in the game and, silly as it might sound, a new glamour system was one of the only things keeping it alive. I legitimately stopped reading the patch notes after that point. :/
