    Sad experiences of a newbie

I'm new to this game, I've played maybe total 30 days and I love it. I love the mechanics, I love the looks, the feel, the fashion.

But I'm probably not gonna come back to this game.

I've always mained healers, it's the role I enjoy the most. And as a healer I'm used to getting blamed for wipes. But in all the years I've played, I have never had such consistently horrible experiences doing group content as I have in FF14 in the past two weeks.

In almost every dungeon I've been doing I have had abuse hurled at me. What was said to me was directed at me specifically, it was personal and targeted. I get it, it's video game, but there is another person there. Like I said, I'm generally used to this and sometimes engage in cheeky banter too, but what I've been experiencing was just downright vicious and really exhausting.

I'm gonna let my sub lapse, only a few days left anyway.

(I just want to vent my frustration. Thread can be locked and blasted into void.)

Sucks to hear that, I typically let newbies with the sprout icon a lot of leeway and generally offer help when needed.

If you want to do that, it's a perfectly valid decision and I wish you the best.

But here's another suggestion Transfer to Faerie, come join the FC I'm in. We'll do dungeon runs together and no one will be vicious I promise.

Have you casted Regen on the Tank as well as anyone else? Regen helps a lot with healing over time so you do not have to heal as much. Healing was way trickier for me before 4.0 because you had to constantly switch between Cleric Stance for damaging and then taking it off for healing.

EDIT: I'm autistic, so I learn at a different pace. Yet I actually adapted pretty well for every job. I'm just at home more playing NIN. After running Titan EX as WHM, I got the hang of it pretty quickly. ALWAYS keep Regen up on your party members.

Is it okay if I ask what they were getting what you for?

Of course these guys are bad for harassing you in the first place, but I just want to see if there's a consistent theme we can work on. Trust me it gets better later on. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

I play on EU and tend to go for very populated servers (I don't like waiting for my queues for very long), I actually have no idea if queueing in this game is cross-server or not.

I'm used to more traditional healing model - me, a healer, just heal. From the garbage thrown my way I gathered I'm supposed to dps too. Apparently for most people I healed too little, dps'd too little, then healed too little, then dps'd too little... you get the idea. I admit, I'm a slow learner, and learning how to juggle healing, dps and buffs (I decided to focus on astrologian) is tough for me, since I don't get a lot of time to play in general.

Healer dps can be helpful and I do encourage it (ABC, Always Be Casting,) but it sounds like they took it too much to heart. I do recommend seeing where you can fit in at least dots and try to go from there, but if you can't it's not that huge of a concern. If you have access to the Novice Network, you can ask for assistance too in there, since people are willing to help. You'll get the hang of how it works on this game eventually, I'll admit healers getting room to dps is a throw off to people used to traditional "If I stop casting heals he dies."

Eh, i managed to level my healers with little to no dps. It helps yes but if people complain on low DPS i just leave the group

I never had any real problems in pick up groups until I started to level my white mage up in Stormblood. I had leveled two dps beforehand.

Bardam's Mettle is when it started and it continued until I hit 70. We were all still in leveling gear and many had no experience in the dungeons yet tanks would try to pull three groups at a time and dps started boss fights while tanks were still watching cutscenes. I also still messed up sometimes. (this was week 3)

I was called some of the worse things you can imagine over very silly and minor things and told more than once how my mother or myself should commit suicide for things like forgetting to use protect. I don't care if I am wiping every pull or not communicating well nobody deserves to be talked to like this even on the internet. This community was no better or worse than WoW but even there I didn't get the kind of hate I did on my whm 65-70 so I totally sympathize with the OP on this. When the time came for me to level my paladin I almost didn't bother but I ended up having none of these social problems despite making a lot more mistakes. I also noticed the healers in my groups still got jumped on for any little thing when I raised my other jobs.

As for the dpsing issue. I did very little as I leveled up and this was one thing Nobody ever complained about. I also do not care if the healer does a lot of dps in my leveling parties. I think you should start to weave that in once you are level capped and you start doing trials and 8/24 man raids. I never thought I could learn to do that but now it's second nature to do so and it really helps out.

It is cross server and so is the party finder tool (lets you build a pre-made group).

That's a very fair assumption to make, as this game is particularly strange in its design.

As a healer you are expected to DPS. The reason for that is because on average the healing required in 90%+ of the content in the game can be handled by very few button presses leading you to have a staggering amount of downtime. I've recorded healers in DF who did not DPS being active less than 20% of the time. Imagine if the tank or DPS's were only active 20% of the time? That wouldn't be a very fun run.

In all your leveling did you never feel like you were kind of just sitting still doing nothing a lot of the time? Were you filling time with healing people at 90% HP that didn't need to really be healed? In this game outside of combat passive regeneration is incredibly powerful so when you spend a lot of time keeping HP bars at max (when it's not needed) you end up wasting that benefit.

The reason why the community is hostile over it is because the difference between a healer strictly healing and a healer who DPS's is insane. That said, in no circumstances is it ever ok to harass a player over this. I'd be really curious if you remember what they specifically said. If it was truly vile, it's definitely report worthy as we want you to stick with the game.

I'd be glad to help you personally, but unfortunately I am on NA. I am sure some EU people would love to make it up to you.
