Just had a run of Cutter's Cry, which was pretty standard fare as far as that dungeon goes. I.e. failed the final boss once b/c people couldn't do blue/violet, etc. What made me both laugh and cry was that the tank kept using the term 'proc' to describe debuffs and DoTs, instead of additional effects that are randomly triggered by abilities.

E.g. "Esuna the proc" when telling the healer to remove the sandworm boss' DoT. Also, "Ok Violet close and blue away, [healer] use selene for easier proc healing." Going by their previous usage, and Selene's aoe esuna ability, I'm assuming they also meant debuff/dot healing here too.

I kept wanting to go full Inigo Montoya on him, but I held back for wanting to complete the dungeon without an argument. XD

    Well, World of Darkness.

WHM hasn't been using his HoTs (until the final boss when he used them after being told to and saying "We have been using them you just don't see it" and said "I don't want to use Medica II", etc. I was playing trash due to a mix of forgetting some of the mechanics and having a friend in meltdown. To the AST in our party, I don't know how coped with all that. I almost took the penalty in frustration at my own poor play.

    And another one...
Turns out I've been having a bad past few days. I think the stress of everything is getting to me. I came across as arrogant, narcissistic, and egotistical in Labyrinth of the Ancients, and upset a lot of people. Didn't get kicked, nearly left (since it would have solved the issues). Eh, I aren't worthy of the mentor crown (even though it wasn't up). So I resign from mentorship until I can get my head sorted out.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

2018 is already shaping up to be beautiful I see. And I'm only just returning from my 5 weekish break.
I hope I don't get random Tanks like that for my Healer runs this year. But I probably will.

Anyway, since I'm here. There's a story I haven't shared yet from several weeks ago, but I'll share it now.

Cued up for Expert Roulette with my usual FC buddy with me as a PLD and him as a WHM. We end up getting a leafy BLM (Yes. He literally had the leaf symbol), and a RDM. Land in Temple of the Fist. The very instant the dungeon begins, both the RDM and the BLM take off before Protect is even being casted. As Protect is coming out literally just 1 second as the dungeon begins, I worry that the RDM and BLM are about to pull without the Tank and Healer up there with them. The BLM doesn't, but the RDM starts hardcasting Aero before I'm even there. Thankfully for him, Protect never takes long to cast and I was already on my way over before his first Aero spell went off. I Shield Oath on my way over, grab the first mob with Flash, and begin my usual pulling routine of 2 to 4 packs at a time in the dungeon since I know it's layout. (Sometimes pulling even more, due to being a PLD at the time)

At the very least, the RDM and BLM know what they're doing... for the most part. The BLM slipped up every now and then, but I could tell this BLM was at least trying, compared to the "Ice Mages" I run in to on occasion. When we reached the first boss, it became clear just how impatient the RDM really is. Before the mobs I've pulled are even quite fully cleared out and my resources have a brief chance to recover a bit, (HP, MP, TP, and skill cooldowns) the RDM throws up a 5 second countdown timer and is already standing in the boss room while the last few trash enemies are still dieing. (He/she did this for all the bosses too BTW)

"Who the hell does this RDM think he is!?" I quickly thought to myself.

After the boss, I make note to charge forward as soon as the boss is dead. I want to take a moment to slap the RDM for having the patience of a chipmunk, but I didn't feel like arguing at all, and I wanted the run to be done in reasonable time myself, so I just pushed forward. I pulled to the wall on this stretch, as I've noted that despite the RDM's chipmunk patience, things were dieing fast enough and everyone clearly knew what AoE meant. But as this particular mob is dieing, I note that the sprint icon just appeared on the RDM as the mob was down to their last few points of HP... and was already taking off from the rest of the group. This is where the RDM's impatience really shined.

The RDM is already aggroing all the next monsters on him and just keeps running forward. At this point, I wanted to put my controller down and bury my face in two palms whispering to myself "You're NOT the tank... I'M the bloody tank!" Instead of letting his/her arse die though, I quickly hit sprint myself moments after the mob we WERE beating down is all dead, so that my sprint buff has 20 seconds to it instead of 10 seconds. I BARELY get to the RDM in time to Flash the mobs off of him/her. (Thankfully, he/she wasn't attacking them yet)

The entire rest of the run goes without any hitches, even with the obvious impatience of the RDM. Some cold justice was served during the final boss fight, in which the RDM ended up taking a few too many AoE's and died. Technically bad, since the RDM actually did know how to DPS, but I felt it was some nice cold justice there for his/her earlier impatience. My FC mate quickly rezs him/her and we finish the battle without any other hitches, and he/she even thanked the party for the run. Despite his/her knowledge in how to DPS, I'll give you 3 wild guesses who didn't get my commend at the end of that run.

This wasn't one of the worst runs I've ever had mind you. It was more just eye rollish. The moral of this story is simply as follows: If you're any job that isn't classified as a Tank, DON'T RUN AHEAD AND PULL EVERYTHING! You're just asking to die if you run ahead in squishy armor. That RDM had better be thankful he/she had me and my FC mate as the Tank and Healer combo that run. The next tank(s) and healer(s) he/she works with may not be able to move fast enough to save his/her suicidal arse.

Nah. When DPS pull like that, I let them die. I'll forgive it once or twice, but if they are being deliberate, they get to die.

I wrote this in this thread some months back, I MTed all of Dun Scaith on my tank alt for the first time, and there was this NIN that kept pulling.

I saved them all the other times, but on Diabolos I finally let them have it, and told my team I let them die. Most of them were like "I'd have done it too." XD

Shinryu normal with 1 new person, 1st try 6/8 fall off to tidalwave , 2nd try tank and healer run straight off edge on tidalwave and other tank doesn't grab boss and wipe, 3rd try both tanks and 1 healer die to tidal wave and 4th try both tanks run off the edge again on tidal wave and wipe.

Decided to just take the 30 minutes penalty after that

    Ah, thanks for the explantion!

And yeah, that was some special luck there >.<

At least one of my follow up runs in Castrum Abania was a lot nicer!
My samurai had hit 69 in the meantime and since I want the scholar-book from there, I queued up for it. I'm being greeted by the "one person is new message" and quickly notice that all three are french, but dont seem to belong together. I get a little nervous - I dont speak french and specially the second boss normally requires a little explantion, but... we'll see. For now the DRK charges in for a surprising big pull anyways. I get even more nervous - we're two samurais, the other one doesnt seem to use their AoE to much (or just figured out a better way to preserve their TP than I do, seeing them lingering around 90% the whole time) - but everything goes smooth.
We reach the second boss and I figure it cant hurt to at least throw in a short (english) explantion regarding the "get the same buff he has"-thing - and... it actually works! They listen - or at least follow waymarkers that I put up in the correct tower!
Encouraged by that I figure I'd give asking for the weapon a shot when we reach the last boss - the whole "I'd like that weapon, would you mind passing should it drop?"-thing. Very kindly all agree to pass on it should it drop!
Sadly the conclusion of the story isnt that my scholar-book dropped... but I was already pleasently surprised by all of them talking a little bit of english, responding to my english at all and agreeing on letting me have the book.

...and for the happy end: Me and some friends went into Abania again later for my samurai and our Khloe-books. And this time the scholar-book dropped. Ofc my friends had agreed on passing on it before - considering my 99-greed-roll I gracefully invited them to roll on it anyways...

is this a trend? I was gone before SB launched and re-subbed last December, enjoying leveling up RDM myself, but I've been in at least 3 dungeons where the RDM would play tank running ahead and pulling mobs. I could imagine such pro-activeness works at expert levels but it just comes off as arrogance esp when the tank is a sprout who's probably just learning and being careful. and in lowbie dungeons where you can't even use vercure, it doesn't make sense when you're just adding stress to the healer.

I can see why people sometimes don't try their best in dungeons.. when you again see all the balances and heals go to DPS who aren't dpsing while you are aoeing, going nuts on dps and pretty much number 1 on damage but no buffs, barely any heals and see the carried DPS getting babied it's like " What the hell?" It's depressing. I dare not ask for any cards either cause I'd be the bad guy and get shit faced. And I know I was top damage in said dungeon because the tank barely could keep hate from me. Monks get no love apparently :c Why the monk hate astros? Seriously We want Balance... And tp when we're going nuts on aoe and you see it on ONE point. Stop feeding BLM cards who do nothing but ICE ICE ICE PLEASE.

Why hate on the Ast while the blame clearly lies with the BLM. In all honesty though I auto card based on role, I can't keep track of ally rotations. Best metric I can use is emnity.
