This makes me wonder if the op has seen games like WoW, where as a male character you are locked into being crazily over-buff.

FFXIV actually has a wide variety of builds for a game, and the only one I would consider muscular like a warrior or over-buff is roe. The rest are actually more on the lean or thin side imo. And you can make them look thin or more muscular with different clothes.
(And this is coming from someone who likes slender and thin males and biggest pet peeve is overly buff guys)

The fact that male Au Ra have hour glass figures is a lot of diversity especially for male body types in games. As another poster mentioned SWTOR might be the only game with more variety.

Can't hurt to have more variety, though XIV has a nice range from potato to ultra buff. Part of the reason I don't like western MMOs is because all the men are OD'd on testosterone. I like being a guy, but I don't need to be "manly" in every blippin' game I play.

I do wish my character wasn't so buff even with the sad excuse for a "muscle slider" all the way down. And that I could be Female Miqo'te height instead of taller than almost every lizard/cat girl despite being at the minimum height setting. They're small complaints, sure. But I'd still be happy to have more control over what I look like.

So long as 'more diversity' brings more options for those of us who want our characters to look masculine, sure - add things like a muscle slider for every playable race. I'd be playing a Miqo'te if I could make one that is a bit beefier than the current options allow for.

I also want to see more options for things like facial hair and not necessarily just beards, either - I favour stubble and something similar to Hien's facial hair would be incredible.

We've been asking this for years. Yet they always ignore us. The character creation screen needs an overhaul with more options and some rearrangement. The colour palette also needs more colours. A muscle slider for all races and genders. More faces and not the 3-4 we have now lol. More eye shapes, noses and more body options including body tattoos.

If they were to introduce different build options, ideally I'd want to see (at least) three options for each race/gender, with the current models as the 'middle' option, and one slimmer and one bulkier build. The exceptions to this would
probably be femAu Ra and both M and F Elezen, who are already pretty slim and might get more use out of two bulkier options, and MRoes, who have probably already achieved maximum bulk and could be given a 'trim' and 'scrawny' option (Imagine the poor textures if they tried to make them any larger! I was standing behind an MRoe in RW last night and could almost hear the design on his coat screaming for mercy >.<).

I'm trying not to imagine how badly adding all those new models would compound our current glamour equality issues...

Re. character heights - I went and checked all the height ranges in the character creator (because I was curious and was meaning to do it anyway).

    Height in centimetres with slider at 0 / 50 (default) / 100:

    Midlander M: 168.0 | 175.0 | 182.0
    Midlander F: 157.4 | 164.0 | 170.5

    Highlander M: 184.8 | 192.5 | 200.2
    Highlander F: 173.1 | 180.4 | 187.6

    Elezen M: 194.1 | 202.0 | 209.8
    Elezen F: 183.5 | 191.0 | 198.4

    Lalafell M/F: 86.9 | 91.9 | 97.0

    Miqo'te M: 159.2 | 166.2 | 173.2
    Miqo'te F: 149.7 | 156.0 | 162.2

    Roegadyn M: 213.5 | 222.0 | 230.4
    Roegadyn F: 192.0 | 207.3 | 222.7

    Au Ra M: 203.0 | 210.0 | 217.0
    Au Ra F: 146.0 | 152.2 | 158.5

If you compare the minimum and maximum heights, most characters have a possible range of about 14cm, but female Roegadyn have an unusually large range of about 30cm.

Adjusting height seems to just scale the entire character up or down, without changing their body proportions.

    In order by average height:
    222 - Roegadyn M
    210 - Au Ra M
    207 - Roegadyn F
    202 - Elezen M
    192 - Highlander M
    191 - Elezen F
    180 - Highlander F
    175 - Midlander M
    166 - Miqo'te M
    164 - Midlander F
    156 - Miqo'te F
    152 - Au Ra F
    92 - Lalafell M/F

Highly amusing that you would call them all meathouses. I'm sorry but Miqo'te males are not meat-houses in the slightest, they are fit sure but not muscular unless you just consider having a low amount of fat being a 'meathouse'

There's plenty different body types already going from Roegadyn all the way down to Miqo's and Lala's

I'd be open to a male model for Viera based off of female Au Ra. Females can be based off of male Au Ra.

I think the issue is there is no option for a more androgynous male character unless you are a Lalafell, all of the males have really strong and bulky shoulders that scream "man" and none of the male silhouettes are really "delicate". Elezen come the closest, but then you see the special model of Alphinaud and... basically, it would be nice if there was a male option for a thin and delicate male like Alphinaud. I know he's considered young and a kid, but that was the kind of model I was hoping for for male Au Ra when Yugiri was introduced.
