So, last night, I was doing 50/60 roulette, to try and get some XP for my WAR. We get The Wanderer's Palace. I get told "Go pull everything you can", so I start going crazy big (think I did a hexa pull at the start!). This healer is literally on fire, despite me being lacking in the cooldown management department. They poked some fun such as saying "This could be a book, The Bizarre Adventures of Nomfur!" etc, but were a great group. We beat it (synced) in like 12 minutes. What. A. Group. I felt exhilirated after that.

Did the requirements get cut back since the Mentor system was launched?

At launch, in addition to the above, a Mentor needed to have completed 1,000 instanced battles, and have 300 comms.

The requirements are still the same.
But 300 Comms are not that hard to get while leveling tank/heal and for the 1k instances even unsynced counts towards this.
Not to mention the crafter way.
So yeah, a mentor at least only needs 1 lvl60 job + crafting and gathering collectables or have at least 1 of each, tank healer and dps, at 60 + 300 Comms + 1k instances, even unsynced.
Please correct me if I got something wrong.

If people are going to criticize something they should at least use the right information.

Right, I forgot the other requirements and thanks for correcting me. But that wasn't my point, nor did I want to criticize mentors.



What I meant was : just take mentors for what they are -> people who completed a relatively easy check list, and by no mean a certain group of people that have anything in common besides this. Mentors don't become dicks just because they got the little crown above their head. A bit like how people don't suddenly become bullies because they installed ACT, but that's another debate ^^

Ah, I see. Sorry then. I see quite a bit of Mentor shade thrown around at times so... My bad. :P

Is it wrong to just request that people say something when they need to AFK or brb in a duty? I mean isn't that the considerate and courteous thing to do?

Had a run just recently where one of the DPS kept going AFK after pulls or even while we were fighting trash and bosses for the whole dungeon pretty much, asked them to stop doing so with zero reply. I don't know why they kept AFKing and not you know...doing DPS to help the group since they said nothing, but whatever I said my peace and requested politely they stop doing so.

Get to the last boss and during the fight.....they AFK for about 5 minutes during the fight from around 40% to 4%. Said nothing just poof AFK with the healer keeping them alive healing them from them not dodging.

Comes back at 4% says "Sorry, my mom needed help with something"

Why did you not have 0.3 seconds to type "AFK sorry" or "BRB sorry"???

Is it too much to ask just to let your group know? I mean barring severe emergencies....helping your mom with something and you're back in 5 mins isn't like your house is on fire yeah? Just say something to the rest of your party? I don't get it.

Nah it's okay I didn't take it that way. I know what you mean.

I am quite sure the healer was butt buddies with the DPS in question so that would be why they wasted energy on them...although I have to say if it was my friend and I was on healer I would let them die anyway too lol

Mentors are just players who happen to have 1 healer, 1 tank and 1 DPS at level 70, nothing more.

Yes and no.You have to go to an NPC to request to become a mentor.You dont just automatically get the status.The mentor system was brought in to get experienced players to help new players with old content through mentor roulette with the incentive of some extra tomes.

I dont know if you were around when the mentor system was originally released but a lot of people only used the novice network for fc recruitment but never gave advice.It was also plagued by bots.
If you dont want to act like a mentor then you switch the crown off instead of giving the rest of them a bad rep.

Since when? I never had to go to any NPC to get the status that I recall. And I've been mentor since partway through Heavensward.

I believe you need to go to the same NPC that introduces hall of the novice. The one I went to was by the innkeeper in Gridania.
