Thank you I completely and wholeheartedly agree. I understand those that want more unique races are allowed their opinions, however i feel there may be a disconnect they do not want to address about the developers and to a certain extent, many FF fans mind set. Much of the appeal of the FF series as a whole is it's beauty, not only of it's worlds, items, and music, but of it's characters. Every main FF protagonist from 1 - 15 has been unearthly beautiful, that goes for men and women.

I have come to believe that this occurrence is not by chance, but instead a staple of the series as a whole and one that is very important not only to many fans, but also to the upper echelons of the company. What else explains 1.0-2.0? it is beloved and they know how important the series tenets are to their fans, FFXIV is often been called a theme park mmo, that's by design. Including aspects from previous FF titles is a win for them as they simply need to dig in to the past to bring out new content.
I am biased, i will admit it. For me the subtle changes between the races is enough. I understand that may not be enough for some, but i do not see it changing any time soon. WoW is the largest mmo, with the largest player base. It touts a race selection that is far more diverse than almost any other game out there. For their next expansion they have made sure both factions now have access to both variants of eleves in the inclusion of subraces.

There are other races i'll not lie, however they are also merely color swaps of existing races (visually, there are stat and racial skill differences). Point being since the first expansion of the game nearly all races introduced have been those that appeal to more traditional fantasy races. Notable exception to this would be the Pandaren race.

I have not done research on their popularity (I have no interest in them personally), however from my own experience I see very few of them about. In this example, the popularity of the more celebrated races was evident, the dev team at Blizzard understood that and adjusted to give the player base what they wanted. I hope SE/ FFXIV does the same. Even if the differences are subtle, even if the race selection is nothing more than "humans with stuff added" i do not see it as a bad thing really.
There is a reason i play FFXIV more than WoW, it's because of those subtle differences between races. (and the lack of shoulder pads hat look like boats on my character)
