Typically anything that you can put "man" on as a descriptive word counts as "man" or "mankind"
E.I the playable races (Elezen Man, Hyur Man, Lalafell Man, Au Ra Man, Roegadyn Man, Manqo'te)

Races in FFXIV are most like just a super extreme version of real life racial differences within a single species and less like say Tolkien or WoW where elves are make of tree bark and lalafells are evolved pugs or whatever.

Basically yeah, all the playable races apparently had the same common ancestor. In evolutionary terms it would likely be the case where the different races were isolated in different places at some point in history and as a result evolved different traits as a result of their environment. Assuming it's a similar concept anyway.

One real world example of this is wolves (bichon frise : saint bernard :: lalafell : roegadyn). Another example is broccoli, cabbage, kale, brussels sprouts, etc., all of which are the same species (B. oleracea).
