Plain, simple and to the point. SE believes - rightfully so, probably - that any copies of their product not purchased by really cheesed off people will be happily gobbled up by a select few individuals. A good number of people that are annoyed will still buy the CD, the artbook and future products to boot. Plenty of people arguing in bad faith on Reddit, lots of people coming to Yoshi and the dev team's defense in general... but this decision is unlikely to have anything to do with them. This decision would have been made way above Yoshi's pay grade, and would therefore not have anything to do with:

Doesn't matter if anyone that bought this current batch of stuff gets fed up and abandons ship; there will be new whales to take your place by then. That's why this situation exists to begin with after all: There are constantly people joking about how many Fantasias they go through, and there are plenty of people buying the currently existing single-character MogStation items multiple times. They wouldn't be doing their jobs if they didn't see how far they can take it.
