You actually are getting that.
Chocobos are getting saddles with inventory space...which are accessed separately from inventory, not accessible at all in instances (dungeons/raids), and not directly linkable to retainer "sell from inventory" (gotta take it out and put it into normal inventory first).

One thing I haven't been able to locate information on(or I'm just blind AF), is if you can access those saddle bags from towns where your chocobo isn't able to appear, or even from the housing wards. It would suck to have to go out to the maps to check your saddle bags for something you need, but don't normally have, while inside the town.

A very good question. We will probably learn more about it soon. I mean the patch will hit this month.

I believe in the video I saw it said it should still work in the housing area if your chocobo is stabled, not sure about towns. I'll go try to find the link and I'll edit this post once I do.

But actually there was a post right in the forums that does say works while stabled, which would imply that it works in housing area (as that's the only place they can be stabled)
