If you want to be correct:

FF1 had Quake, so we've had "Earth" spells since the series was conceptualized.
And water spells belonged to NINJA MAGIC from IV as they got access to Flood which Edge learned.

Yup, though technically 'Stone' first appeared in FFXI. But, it wasn't the first appearance of earth based magic in general.
