It's easier to get items developed if the publishers know they will gain a few extra 100k from the sale of said item versus just another seasonal event which people probably won't even subscribe one month to complete.

That and I would rather have it a direct purchase item than tied to some promotional deal like spending 20 dollars on Amazon or Dr Pepper locked in a country I'm not in
