on the other hand, those bad apples don't have to make up a majority of the population to do damage to others. their behavior doesn't magically become better or worse once they hit or fall below arbitrary volumes of the population. only the likelihood that you'll encounter them or be able to get away from them without retreating to a clique really changes.

those bad apples could be 15% of the population, but if their capable of contaminating the PF group pool and social momentum takes off hard enough, it'll produce nothing but douchey environments for anyone that doesn't produce what they want.

Pretty sure the vast majority of people who use parsers don't even care how much damage other people are and are just interested in how much they themselves are doing. The few toxic ones who use parsers to bitch you out are easily handled by blacklisting.

As long as you don't try to force it on others while in the Duty Finder then, no there's nothing wrong with it.

Of course, again if someone does blizzard>thunder>fire then repeat again, then yeah they get booted. That's not even trying, more like netflix and playing.

A lot of the more serious parsers do not care about what a person does in duty finder content--they do not expect some 99th percentile play in Kugane Castle. They only care about performance in their static, or in farm PF groups that advertise efficiency and proficiency.

Generalizing an entire group of individuals based on the bad apples is gross.

Overwatch =/= FFXIV

Overwatch is full of stereotypes, too. They make fun of Africans in our world by portraying their game world as totally high-tech and an advance society. They make fun of and stereotype autistic people (I'm autistic, and I'm totally offended on how they portray that stupid character Symmetra). You have a space-gorilla, a British lesbian, an overweight Chinese woman, a Norwegian midget, an overweight Maori that talks like a child, a robot yogi, a playboy cowboy, a character called Doomfist that is a name for a sexual action, a Mexican hacker, a character called Junkrat which is slang for a Jewish person, a cyborg ninja (wtf? lol), a samurai...no wait, a Japanese archer? I mean, they don't even portray Hanzo's gear right. They made one outfit with a Japanese word for a "street sign arrow," so what the heck is that supposed to mean? They try to make their characters so cool and unique, but they just don't look believable. I mean, you call the characters all "heroes," yet there are villains in the roster called "heroes," too. What's up with that?? And there's literally no backstory for why everyone is fighting. Blizzard's development team is so poor that they cannot make in-game cutscenes, a storyline, or whatnot. They have to rely on stupid animated shorts and comics to tell a story. Heck, on their launcher, to watch a "cutscene," you have to click on a link and you are re-directed to YouTube. Why would your game re-direct you to YouTube?? Why is it not in the game??

Until mmo developers can achieve 100% flawless and perfect balance between every class/job in the game, there will always be a meta hierarchy. Perfect balance between all classes and jobs in a mmo is simply not possible unless they have every single class/job completely homogenized to the point where everyone brings everything utility wise, all the class/jobs play the same and where boss mechanics do all the same thing and no one has a advantage over another. This will not ever happen because it would dull the game down to such a extent that no one would be even remotely interested in playing it.

That being said, there is a big difference between the strongest classes/jobs and classes/jobs that are capable of clearing all content regardless of difficulty. The real issue is people displaying a hivemind mentality that is based completely on numbers on paper, rather than actual experience and skill with the job and the encounter.


They make claims that X class is terrible, when it's not and perfectly capable of clearing content and instead of bringing X class they bring the one that provides more theoretically in a perfect scenario. This is both a balance problem and a community problem because, while every job is capable there are jobs who definitely bring more to the table. Unless you are in a static where everyone is at equal or similiar skill level, the pug mentality is always going to seek out what is strongest on paper, rather than seek out someone who is skilled on a class/job that isn't as strong or doesn't bring as much as the others. People are always going to seek out the easier and safer solution.


I'd personally would rather take someone skilled on one of the lesser in-demand jobs than let's say, someone on a bard, dragoon or ninja because i value player skill over a job strengths. At the end of the day, this problem isn't going to go away anytime in the forseeable future. The best you can do if it's disrupting you this much is seek out a static of like minded individuals and avoid PF groups like the plague. Sorry for the long post, cheers.

Suddenly I'm glad I never bothered with Overwatch. But that said, outside of a few statics I don't think there's anything that toxic here. Admittedly I am aware of a handful of douchebags, and I cannot compare it to Overwatch either, BUT, I played WoW before this, back in 2014, and nothing about anything in this game, not even my worst experience here so far, even slightly compares to the toxicity and general awfulness back in WoW at that time. So I can at least say I've seen way worse. Most people I run into here don't care about metas or throw fits, and when they do, I just leave and requeue if its that bad, just a little bump on a nice scenic road. But hey, that's just me. ^_^
