What makes one elemental wheel more standard or proper over the other? You do realize that this is completely made up fantasy that's different from pretty much every game?

Here's something I threw together really quick to show what I meant. (the original picture of the wheel is from XI-atlas.com)
I think the two astral and umbral triangles you get with XI's elemental weaknesses make more sense balance-wise than XIV's uneven wheels.

How are XIV's uneven? You've got the two triangles of three elements each, then you've got the two triangles for Umbral and Astral. Seems pretty damn even to me.
Because XIV's are Wind→Fire→Ice→ and Water→Earth→Lightning→. The Astral and Umbral elements aren't evenly distrubuted.
It's not really a problem, and I doesn't matter to me if they change it or not. This is a fictional universe and they can make it work any way they want to, after all. I just prefer the way XI's looks.![]()
Except.. they are evenly distributed. Wind, Fire, Ice fall in the Astral wheel whereas Water, Earth, Lightning in the Umbral wheel. That's not arguable, it's in the game and it's how it functions. Post #7 has pictures of XIV's wheels if you need a visual.
Edit: Nevermind, I see what you mean in regards to lining them up Kowen. While Lightning is an "Astral" element, it still falls in the Umbral wheel. Best keep that Banish and Scourge up then.

I can see what you and Arcell meant now, but it just feels like what XI had worked fine and they decided to make it more convoluted just to be different (that line alone describes most of the game, huh...)
But like I said, it's not something I think is a flaw, just an aesthetic preference.
The first picture that Tonkra posted lines them up differently. All the Umbral elements at the bottom, while the Astral at the top. Like you said, different aesthetic preference. That aside, I still find 2 separate wheels interesting in concept. In practice, it's still the same gameplay, cast the spell that the enemy is weak or neutral to with the added layer of casting a separate spell to enhance the dmg of the element.
I wouldn't doubt this changes soon anyway, so people just need to blow out them fires and make a wish till then.
All argument on what puts out flames aside, I really would like to see the traditional FF elemental table brought back to replace this astral/umbral jazz.
It would make the game a lot easier to understand and more keeping with the Final Fantasy theme.
The astral/umbral change is just one of the many things that exist that make me constantly feel like this was never intended to be a FF game to begin with and should be converted or adapted like every thing else for 2.0.
Ummmm no, wind does not extinguish fire. Wind gives oxygen to a fire. Have you ever seen the wind pick up in an area set ablaze? Wind gives power to fire. Birthday candles are a horrible example.
