    There are many ways to play this game. I know of quite a few groups who have cleared O4S and have gotten pretty far in Ultimate without using the meta. Sure, there are jerks who will get mad at you, but there's that little thing called a blacklist.

    It's funny you said OW because I know many people who have come to XIV from that community because it was so toxic (and most who are women were harassed hard).
    the thing is, those guys can also blacklist you for not playing by their rules. what's more, if this practice spreads hard enough, anyone that doesn't follow the meta is going to be ostracized and forced into their tiny cliques. if effectively everyone follows the meta, all new arrivals that don't are barred from content. moreso when, as the video describes, those players following it apply one contextually specific meta broadly.

    Speaking of Overwatch. I saw someone cosplaying as Tracer around when Stormblood started. I never got a picture though.

    I'm scared if they ever add dps meters in this game. (officially) I'll never forget how people were so rude to others who had low dps in WoW. It was horrific. "get this, get that, Hope you get" insults. Awful. Gaming should be fun, not a job. And if you can't do something, it's not the end of the world.

    yeah, but the players that will do that already have unofficial tools so that ship's sailed. at least if they have those tools in an official capacity a new player can attempt some degree of self-teaching.

    What if minmaxing and pushing the every single number out of the character/comp/whatever is fun for someone? Are they having fun wrong?

Just play whatever job you want, there are always statics who have the mindset of screw the meta, let's optimize what we got instead (that is if they bother to optimize that, some statics don't even do that, just clearing is good enough for them). Figure out how you rank from casual to hc or something inbetween, and find likeminded individuals. That is the reason why people do the extensive interviews, to find best matching people to your group, since groups are way smaller than what they were in wow. If you are in a static that kicks from slightest mistakes or something (sounds more like a trial for a more serious static if you ask me), they probably were not the right match for you. Remember, static trials are not just to see if you are good enough for the team, its also a trial for the team if they are good for you! As for the streamer bit, I'm going to say no, cause even before twitch, there have been more HC people around, and those that emulate them thinking it will make them magically better, even if they just don't have the skill for it. Streaming might have made it more widespread, but it has always been around.

    Which is why it is both good and bad. It would shake some people's imaginations of themselves though :3.

    I know, and they keep quiet about it, which is good. it's a 50/50 thing. It has good and bad sides to it. I've just seen the bad side more. (In WoW) If they ever add it in this game officially, then i hope they can police it.

    @Baalfrog
    No they're not wrong at all, i understand the need to know damage and such for difficult content. But what is wrong is If say someone in DF started to use a dps meter to purposely belittle people, call them names, wishing horrible things on them just because someone was low dps. (Not saying that everyone in DF would do that of course, just those cases, which were surprisingly common in WoW.)

    Like i said, i just hope if they ever added it. It would be policed. And fun differs for everyone anyway, what some find fun, others don't. But insulting people is never fun. Just makes you look like a complete berk.

    one simple mitigating step: only have it display your personal damage.

    The thing is... FFXIV is a PvE game, while Overwatch is PvP. That alone makes Overwatch a lot more competitive. The matches aren't like the raids in FFXIV, where you get 2 hours to kill the boss, and if you wipe you can just try again. In Overwatch, every time you mess up, it directly influences the end result. Whereas in FFXIV, all your mistakes are gone once wipe.

    Now since PvP in FFXIV is... let's just say "not as much of a thing", a lot of the people who are after that feeling of competition that Overwatch offers, turn to parsing. They turn PvE into something competitive. Thus they are looking to do the best damage they are capable of.

    So just like how in Overwatch you see people getting toxic because you are getting in the way of their win, in raids you will see toxic people getting mad that you might be affecting their parse.

    But I still don't think it's at the level of how Overwatch is, since like I said - the games are very different.

    DRK was showcased as the world first because the player wanted to make a point and he enjoyed playing as DRK. The video only outlined the key flaws of DRK in 4.0 and other videos showed how the WAR and PLD combo is slighly easier in terms of progression.

    But that showcase in no way shape or form proves that DRK doesnt need any adjustments.
