I went into leveling roulette and got Sirensong the other week as a tank. One of the first things I usually do as we're waiting for people to load in/watch cutscenes is check other player's gear. I'm the tank, I look at the healer first.

They're equipped with a level 235 Padjali cane.

I wanted to drop right that second. I wanted to speak up and address that weapon. (Please, WHM, there are better vendor weapons.)

I decided to give them a chance. Small pulls only though. I already cycle religiously through cooldowns so I knew that wouldn't be an issue.

That WHM did just fine. I never once feared for my life. However, one of the dps was also poorly geared and that Sirensong run took 35 min. I didn't particularly care, I didn't have anywhere else to be, but each pull was so painfully, tediously slow. By the time each pull was done ALL of my cooldowns were ready for the next one.

In addition to the 290 gear from your job quest already mentioned, you can buy 310 gear with verity tomestones. You get those in levelling, trial, Alliance, and IIRC 50/60 roulette, none of which need more gear than you already have, and all of which beats the drops in Temple of the Fist. Verity stuff costs so little to buy that you can get to 310 very easily.

So today I had a very pleasant Shinryu (normal) run. Which is surprising since we know how it can go wrong very quickly. But here, it was the magic of christmas at work.

A SMN says he's new. Suddenly everyone stops to explain him the strat, being very precise about each mechanic and asking if the SMN understood everything.

We wiped once but that's because we couldn't kill the adds quickly enough

But despite that, during these 2 pulls, the new SMN and everyone else performed admirably, especially the little newbie.

And after we defeated Shinryu, before anyone left, they wished a merry christmas to everyone in the party.

So once again, Merry Christmas to these awesome people, to that new SMN who must be very happy, and to each and everyone of you who play this game !

The game actually tells you when you level if there is a new job quest for you to do so you should pay more attention to the game's instructions. Go do your job quest.
Yeah, it's passage of arms that's missing and I haven't looked up where to pick up the PLD quest after HW. If you and Lilseph hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have read about lvl 70 PLD gear. I played to 70 yesterday and unlocked content my friend (not a tank) showed me, YouTubed guides, and rolled with it.

I wouldn't feel the slightest bit offended if anyone said something like "Hey, Jelly, it looks like you haven't gotten your lvl 70 gear." I'd be like, "Nah, sorry, I'm currently working on it, you mind though?", then a simple, "Yeah, sorry mate, can't do this, good luck though, cheers." go eat penalty or not and just roll with it. I'd appreciate that feedback. But this whole poofing without saying anything, I mean communicating is a basic life skill, and I'm the idiot? I don't know. But thanks for being helpful, really appreciate it.

Yes, thanks, was able to buy better wep after Temple and Kugane. Last I checked only lvling was offering me verity and creation, none for 50/60. I could be wrong though, will let you know if I am when I log later.

Not sure about 50/60, but leveling, trials, and (if you don't mind losing XP on another job) alliance roulettes all offer verity and creation, and none require great gear.

To add to the gear discussion, once you've done the lv70 quest and while you're building up Verity gear, the three endgame dungeons you have access to atm (Ala Mhigo, Kugane, and Temple) all drop i300 pieces as well, so it's not a bad idea to pick those up while saving up tomestones. I also recommend once you're about i295 overall at least to try out the normal version of Deltascape. The fights actually aren't that bad at all, especially once you've done them a few times, and you can get some nice i320 gear as well as parts to trade for those gear pieces. You'll definitely want to beat V4N at least four times so you can trade the crystals you get for the special tomestone needed for the i330 Creation weapon. Skalla drops i315 gear when you're able to run that, which is pretty nice (Plus getting through Skalla unlocks the Expert Roulette, which is a huge part of grabbing Creation tomestones!). When you're ready for Rabanastre, you'll definitely want to run that at least once a week. It has i330 gear (though you can only win one piece per week), and on top of that when you clear the first time each week you get a coin to trade for upgrade items for your i330 Creation gear and a Cracked Cluster to trade for tier VI materia. Definitely not shabby rewards! Meanwhile, you can also attempt Susano Ex if you want to go for your i320 weapon. You'll probably want to make sure all of your gear is at i310 or better before trying, and it might be tricky at first, but you're guaranteed to get a weapon after beating him at least ten times for the totems, provided you don't win it from a chest before then. Beyond that, it's a matter of doing Creation cap every week, and if you want to try Omega Savage/Shinryu Ex you can do so for great gear and weapons as well. Good luck!

Got Aurem Vale in leveling today (not suprised). Dps left, had a new tank, okay. Died because too big a pull in first room. Almost wiped in Coincounter. Usual stuff, but party was okay.
Until the final boss, when the other dps decided to eat all the fruits, after I already explained to wait until 3 stacks. Not sure if trolling or not but they did not stop when the healer spoke up. We cleared but boy was I irritated.

Well the issue is not everyone is nice like you and doesn't get offended. I've seen it happen often when either I decide to speak up to tell someone where they can get better gear and I get called elitist for it and immediate backlash for speaking up about it. I've had some pretty nasty stuff said to me which I won't repeat over simply trying to help :/

In general in my 4 year experience in this game... questioning another player about their gear or play style even just with the goal to help them ends in backlash a lot for me or when I see others do the same thing in DF and I am just an observer they often get backlash as well.

I know the best thing to do would be to just speak up, but you cannot expect people to do that all the time in-game. Unfortunately the people who get defensive at unsolicited help make people more often just want to not bother because they don't feel like getting yelled at or dealing with the confrontation/argument if they speak up. So it isn't your fault and they aren't really blaming you by not helping you, they just have had too many bad experiences due to other players.

It's sort of like say IRL you often tried to help strangers but anywhere from 50%-80% of the time you get slapped across the face for it. Eventually you are going to slowly help less and less because you just don't want to deal with the potential abuse...will I get hurt this time? Or will I not? Is it worth bothering for a complete stranger? Sometimes the answer is no because we need to protect our own happiness sometimes.

*this is purely just a hypothetical example and I am not talking about helping out for severe situations like trying to save someone from being physically hurt or dying... just little every day things like someone dropped their bag and you try to help pick up the scattered items for them or you see someone struggling at a cash out machine in a grocery store and you try to help them. IRL I would say that doesn't happen much...people generally appreciate help most of the time with only very few instances where they get defensive for it, but in MMOs it seems a decent amount of players in my experience get mad at you.

Everyone kind of has to protect their peace of mind sometimes so if they aren't in the mood to get yelled at then they may just leave and avoid the "what if" scenario altogether and it isn't your fault since you wouldn't react that way, but other players ruined it by getting foul mouthed over it. People have different mental states and there are tons of different kinds of people playing online games. They may get anxiety about arguments or confrontations so even if they can help you they may avoid it to protect themselves since in the past they have ended up in confrontations or arguments for trying to help.

If they poof without saying anything it is unfortunate, but you kind of have to just accept their decision. They don't know you and they have no obligation to assist you if they don't feel like it.

And you're welcome I am glad it helped. Just make sure you pay attention to the game's help tips because they do try to point you in the right direction most of the time.
