This is a debate that boils down to gamepad vs. keyboard users. If SE wants to even remotely appeal to the PC MMO players then they will remove having to push enter to heal.

Everything else has been said. Imo having to push enter is something that they didn't quite think about entirely. I'm thinking their THM playtester was using a gamepad cause this wouldn't have made it live.

There should be an on-screen button mages can click that simply toggles AoE on or off.

    Simple as that.

I kinda wish they would streamline the AoE/single-target thing a little more.... maybe get rid of the AoE-toggle before casting a spell (eliminating the need to "confirm" a spellcast) and instead making the AoE option built into an action that you can put on the action bar (eliminating the extra few steps of making a macro for it). It makes it easier for new players and less bulky for the regulars

Edit - not to mention it would eliminate the need for casters (especially healers) to macro all of their spellls and heals for faster reaction times (there's nothing like having to confirm a zillion things just to save that pesky THM who just debuffed that pack of mobs.... hint, I am that THM)

Maybe they could just give us -ga spells like we had in XI and remove the AoE on/off.

Wait, no, that would just fill up our action slots too fast.

Even with gamepad you have to enter, but i dont even use the AOE there, i dont even know how to toggle AOE with gamepad I just have 2 macros, one /aoe on, and another /aoe off which I use often to switch so the enter is a pain annoying choice.

I can understand it on somethings such as allowing you to toggle enemies prior to spell, it lets you have a secondary target as I could be hitting enemy, i hit cure, it switches to secondary target toggle, and I can pick a player.

But theres no need for it when using mouse + pt menu.
    ???
To change between AOE/NO AOE with a pad you had to click the "emotes/BR"
you don't have to enter anything with a pad. focus a target, click the cure, if the target is an enemy you go automatically in subtarget and you can choose a friendly target.
    with macro, use
    /ac "Cure II" <st>
    so easy.

Just add AoE specfic spells imo. This confirmed cast is ridiculous especially when you play with mouse and keyboard. I have to hit my spell and then click the mob because I dont want to move my hands to hit enter during combat.

This has to go. Just like everything else in this game that puts up barriers of extra steps to prevent flow and fun.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, pressing "z" toggles area for keyboard users. I don't think this debate is simply keyboard vs gamepad either. Hitting the same spell creating the "killswitch" often doesn't register and the spell goes off anyway. Its not very reliable and I end up running away from combat to get "out of range" message which is more reliable.

Then as mentioned before, the cued up spell above the stamina bar is almost always incorrect for what is channeling at the moment.

And for the original topic at hand..that sub-target confirmation. I've had heals fail because the sub-target did not properly register the action. All-in-all there is plenty of room for improvement.

    they gonna improve combat anyway
And trist me we don't want the spell list ffxi had... too many spells not enough space. I think all this "debate" is useless complaining just to complain as there is slowly not much complaining about. In ffxi if you made a /magic "Cure" <stpc> you still need to confirm who you selcted. Its not that hard to speed click buttons. I was a melee rdm who sub cured and never missed refresh on ppl or got to where I was having ppl ask me. I payed attention to the ticking. I never was complained about my cast speeds.

Honestly just speed click just do enter enter really fast. not really that hard.

That's the problem with them wanted to make this as different from XI as possible (which in itself was a compilation of classic FF games.)

They should just make aoe togglable before selecting an ability, similar to the BR button. Then they can remove the targetting confirmation every time you cast a spell. If people want to cast on targets that aren't the main target then that feature should be reserved to a <st> macro to make the rest of the game feel more streamlined.
