As for the topic at hand. I just want to nominate myself for dying 3 times on the first boss of Rabanastre today. I don't know what I was doing but playing well was not it. Was having a terrible off day. My apologies to the rest of the raid and my party.

Oh, huh. I even glanced at the tooltips for those when going through all the skills to make sure before posting and missed it. Not that I've ever noticed the need, since I always pop at the very least Tactician in an AoE pull and Refresh in a boss fight, if not both, for their regen effects alone anyway. I guess I would consider enmity reduction to just be baked into those two jobs then. Oopsie! I feel totally dumb right now.

It's a roulette for a reason. You take your chances on what you're given and everyone has to go through the same content at some point*. Not all of us were playing this game when everyone else started and even if we were, some of us are learning new classes. I get that no one really likes doing Sastasha or Copperbell or Brayflox for the zillionth time, but it's just the way it is. Maybe try not to be resentful of that and offer the newbies (or new-to-class) some help seeing as you're stuck in there with them anyway.

*Well, I guess not everyone has to go through the content. We could use job potions - - - oh, but then people complain about those people not knowing how to play their class (and I don't disagree with those sentiments). It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation, I feel.

I just made an alt on Faerie, when I get higher level I can run with you and give you tips and things. Just let me know.

As for tonight:

My faith in my skill as a BLM has returned a bit. I went into Temple of the Fist tonight and my co-DPS was a BRD who was similarly geared, although I think I might have had a few more ilvl300-310 pieces than her; not entirely sure. I ran with my parser on because I'm highly critical of my numbers and like to compare myself to others (I honestly don't care what other people are managing). Her and I were in a bit of a DPS war throughout the whole dungeon; her numbers being better at times and then mine being better at other times. Considering that there are a ton of movement mechanics in that dungeon, I was happy enough. We get out and I check the overall averages and see that for the first time in probably ever lately I averaged higher than my co-DPS. Not by much, but it just makes me feel a little bit better about myself that I can keep up with other players who are similarly geared. We also had a really good DRK and a fantastic healer. The DRK was wonderful at explaining the mechanics for each boss as the BRD hadn't been there before and I'd only been there once and don't recall it. I wish I could have given them all commendations. It was such an enjoyable run.

I went into Castrum Abania earlier as AST through roulette and just cringed. I cannot for the life of me master #24's mechanics and while we didn't die, it wasn't pretty. Because of that, the mentor that was with us up and left. We got a RDM in replacement and things were fine until the final boss when that poor RDM ate floor about 4 times while I was trying desperately to keep everyone on their feet. No one was salty though, at least not openly, and I walked out with two comms and a friend request from another player.

I mean, it's a step forward in the right direction from the RDMs I usually see that enjoy to just derp around with their full MP bars, jumping over the dead bodies of HALF AN ENITRE ALLIANCE - but, like, I still have to wonder why.

My boyfriend and I finally decided to get back to leveling some classes again - hes finishing up bard, I'm working on DRK. After a mostly boring and eventless (even wipeless! Yes, even at the last boss!) LotA-run the alliance-roulette picked for us, we went where the fun began...

First: Trials-roulette! It puts us into Ravana HM, we get a newbie-bonus, granted, but thats not even close to being an explantion for the performance of this level 60 paladin. Disclaimer: I main paladin, so I'm easly trigger by people playing that job stupidly.
He starts with not picking an oath and instead decideds to just facepull - Ravana is all over the place til I pick him up and start maintanking.
...just to watch my Co-tank burning ALL his cooldowns. Including Schiltron and... Temperd Will. I love that skill, but its highly situational (for everyone not that familiar with paladin: it prevents knockback/pull-ins and removes bind and heavy - non of that is happening in Ravana) and each time I see a paladin use it like that I know they havent read their tooltips at all. While I'm raging about the paladin, my boyfriend fails at solo-ing the adds - non of the other dps apparently noticed that they could and should kill those. We get three swords and wipe.
I do the next pull nice and properly this time, while the paladin turns his sword-oath (that I requested) on and off on a whim. We're 30 seconds into the fight, I'm tanking, they're standing next to me and... hallowed ground goes off, followed by Schiltron (again) and a switch to shield-oath, that get quickly changed to sword after I type that again in chat - so at least they're listening...? Somewhat...? DPS is also awake now and we make it to the second phase without getting a sword at all.
This is were the real fun begins now! Until this point everything the paladin did only triggered me because it was stupid, but not harmful - until now... or rather: until the point Ravana picks the OT as target and the paladin starts running around, turning Ravana all the time, killing a healer and half the DPS in the process... we make it, but he repeats the same shit the second time this mechanic comes up.
At this point I check his profile - maybe hes the new person after all? - and what I see is: Dragoon at 70, 3 other jobs (including WAR, I think?) at 60... hes also in full shire gear, so the only way he can be new is: He bought a jump potion. Or four, most likely.
We manage to kill with Ravana and even if I'm sure it was useless to say it (since the tank was also french...) I left with a comment about how you should at least look up how to play your job after buying a jump-potion...

Second: Even though we're both pretty annoyed at this point, we queue for leveling roulette - Bardams, yes! Perfect level for my DRK and good enough for his bard. Second DPS is a MCN with an NQ-255-weapon - less yes... the real "problem" is the healer though, a WHM. Almost every job on 70 (exceptions were only WHM and AST, I believe?) and gear thats alright for this dungeon, so I figure I go for large pulls (my own ilvl is at 275, so theoritically large pulls should be okay). I die within the first 20 seconds, despite me using CDs - he just didnt heal me... but raises me, while bard and MCN are kiting mobs, but chainreactions happening and wie all die and release a few times with mobs running around at the entrance now. I apologise and get the comment of the healer that "large pulls are normally fine" - okay...? I still dont feel like doing them and do single-group-pulls. The healer is lazy as fuck - no DPS but I'm still dropping down to 15% health multiple points, before I get any heals - except regens between pulls obviously...
We wipe again after I tried to pull the two groups before the second boss - I cant go 30 seconds without healing after all. After that I finally give up and we finish the dungeon in snailpace...
I know how much it can suck to heal those large pulls - specially with undergeared, no-CD-tanks, but I'm neither... and I healed this crap with tanks like that on my scholar, so seeing this WHM being almost unable to heal me through single-group-pulls was kinda depressing...

Do you understand the mechanics and only have trouble executing them? Or do you just dont understand how the boss works?
If its the later, let me offer an explantion: each time he casts "Barrier Shift" he will give himself an elemental buff - watch out for the elemental AoEs the towers left behind and step into the one that matches the buff the boss has now! (As in: hes got the fire-buff, walk into the fire-AoE and continue attacking - if you dont have the matching buff, you'll get knocked back when you attack). Other than that the fight is pretty staright forward.
