We're seeing a decline in the number of male characters right here in this forum. It's not because we don't have wallets, it's because S-E stopped bothering to cater for us. It's a reversible trend that they themselves caused.

Yes. The reason we (briefly) had more male outfits in the cash shop was because we have fewer glamour outfits in the game (making 'equality' via cash shop reskins is all kinds of shady but it was their official answer to the problem until they forgot and started favouring female characters there too, which probably happened around the time of the Aymeric hairstyle nonsense). Compare female-only gear to male-only gear; there are a number of very popular costumes which only have female versions because the 'male' variant is actually unisex. The upcoming character cash shop outfits are massively biased towards female characters, so there's no chance of improvement.

Just stop making gender exclusive items(sans maybe swimwear(although I've seen some cute guys in bikinis before)) and make everything unisex.

That will just encourage the developers to design everything to be feminine or androgynous...which does nothing to please those of us who really just want more glamour options that are cool and/or sexy in a masculine manner.

I'd rather this than nothing at all. I'll just take what I can get. You can't make a car go top speed right from standstill. It has to have at least some kind of acceleration time.

Its funny that in 2014 this game was praised for its equall treatment of both male and female characters, if only we knew...

But as I said, the number of items in the cash shops are equal. And in regards to the sets that are obtained in-game, which ones are you referring to? The Travnairian busier and Spring Dress are the only things that come to mind as female exclusive. Everything else is either unisex or has a male equilvant. The Ao Dai, Hannah Wool Shirt, and Taoist Shirt are all unisex.

But making everything unisex would get rid of individuality, would it not? People are already annoyed by seeing others of the same gender with the same outfit. Making it available to EVERYONE might make it worse and discourage them from wearing it at all.

I think they're referring to how the females in this game are somewhat grounded in design. There's a bigger emphasis on fashion and looking cool. They're not overtly sexual with exaggerated bodies, like you see in Korean MMOs (Blade in Soul, Scarlet Blade, Black Desert, Lineage II etc)

Bunny costume (2x 5 items each). We were specifically promised the ears would be made unisex in 2015, and subsequently promised that we were getting a male equivalent. Hah. The unisex 'masculine' version of this outfit is the Gambler (Setzer) set for the first one, and er, nothing for the second. I don't actually know why they gave the girls a second bunny suit rather than at least giving us our long-promised ears.

Spring hat/skirt/shoes (3 items, hat, boots and skirt). These items use similar models to existing unisex gear. It makes literally no sense as a gender locked set. No male equivalent.

Spring dress (1 item). No male equivalent.

Bridesmaid’s set (3 items). The male equivalent is the Best Man's Suit, but they made that wearable by women too just because they could.

Thavnairian set (5 items) . Again, they made the male version unisex. Why? Because someone on the design team likes tomboys, I guess.

The praise was for gear quality too. It was, believe it or not, a big influence on my choice to play as a male character in the first place (I was female in beta but prefer male characters).

Bridesmaid's set is female exclusive while the Best Man set is unisex, to add to the list

That's people's problem for wanting to be special snowflakes. If they want to be unique they can work harder at their glamour, not stomp their legs and demand the devs keep other people who pay equal sub money be kept out of content. And let's face facts, when even Yoshi-P jokes about how glamour is the true-end game, this is what it boils down to, locking about half the active characters out of content.

Don't forget that the Sailor outfit was another set that was initially male-only then made unisex. Sailor set was the male equivalent to the Spring set.
